I have changed my name for this as I am a very regular poster and I don't want family to know what is on my short list - much easier to ask strangers on the internet instead!

Would welcome your thoughts on my lists and if you could add to my boy choices along the same lines, that would help too. Generally, anything in the top 100 names is out....

Nina
Clio
Beatrice
Cordelia

Miles
Lucian

So there aren't many to choose from!

I know a family with a Cordelia, so just giving you their boys' names:
Gad
Caleb

Not sure if they are really along the same lines though.

I also like Guy, Rory, Simeon, Silas, Saul, Christian.

Not sure how they fare in the top 100 list, I generally don't pay any attention to it.

HTH.

Thanks Mrs SB - I like Rory but it wouldn't go with our surname, also Christian.

For a girl I also like Caroline but I guess I will have to see how the child looks to see what suits.

Girls: Personally i like Nina and Cleo (Clio is a renault isn't it?), less obvious 'class' connotations (Cordelia and Beatrice are def posh)

Boys: I have a Jude which I don't think has made top 100. I like Gabriel too. Am loving Gad too!!

Like your girl name choices, with the exception of Beatrice. not so keen on the boys names. How about Cassius or Otis?

Cleo and Nina are both lovely.

We've just been reading a story with a Lucian in and dc wouldn't believe that it was a boys name. Therefore he might have a hard time at school?

I know a miles (2ish) who's not at all posh but is quite farmy. Think you would have to live in the right sort of area to use.

A freind has an Edgar which I think is a bit of a grower and not in the top 100.

I like that and I don't think it's in the 100.

I think boys are much harder!

The reason I would choose Clio over Cleo is that Clio is the original spelling - the name of one of the Greek muses. It is bloody annoying that it is also a car though!! So I'm not sure if I should avoid that spelling just because of that but I wanted the original spelling.

Thanks for your suggestions. I quite like Edgar.

I saw a little boy at play group the other day who was called Reuben. I never liked this name until I actually heard it in use, so to speak. Love it now (mind you, he was absolutely gorgeous with lots of dark curls, sure any name would've suited him)!

Same as above
Nina and Cleo (sry Clio although original is too renault) are both lovely as is Miles.

I never liked Beatrice for some reason but it's not unpleasant, reminds me of an old person.
Lucian reminds me of Lucifer (as someone else said).

Thanks for replies. KatB - do you think Renault Clios will still be around in 20 years time? I fear they might actually - they have been for many years haven't they?

Like your girls' names except Cordelia, how about Saul, Joel, David or Noah?

Report

Don't like Miles but love all the others. Would spell it Cleo though. Clio is the car.

Report
InSearchOfaName · 17/01/2009 20:33

No, Clio is the original spelling after the Greek muse, which is why it would be my choice of spelling. The car does put me off, of course very very annoying!! Cleo is just short for Cleopatra - doesn't have the same historical significance.....Oh well, maybe I'll just go for Nina instead
