I knnew of an adult called Rupert. he was a teacher. After qualifying and going through teaching practise he decided to change his professional name to Simon (IIRR) as he got far too much abuse being called Rupert.

I too think it's nobtastic. That said, there aren't many of them around (certainly not in my social circle ) and I do love the Roo abbreviation. It would probably grow on me if I met a child called Rupert and perhaps then I'd forget the adult association with the name. Haw haw haw.

I love Rupert.
In fact it's on my list for impending DC3.
It is, however NOT on DH's list - he thinks it's ridiculous and poncey.
(and I fear that many of my friends and relations (on DH's side obviously) would agree and I'd get teased if I use it).

Am quite tempted though - if it's a boy.
If you love it, and you manage to pursuade your DH then do it!

Awful. I work with undergraduates and have just met two Ruperts, one so wet you could wring him out and one obnoxiously little lump of arrogant knobcheese. Which, oddly enough, are the two personalities I would associate with the name.
