I think the one syllable names go best with Bobby - any one syllable name that doesn't start with B would sound great.

If you're going for Robert on the birth certificate, it goes with almost anything (except maybe other "Bert" names like Albert). Not very helpful, I know, but it means you could use a family name if you wanted to honour a father or grandfather etc.

I have such a pet peeve of people giving nicknames or short form names as first names. It annoys the heck out of me.

Worst offender is Harry. It is not a name - it is short for Harold or Henry or even Harrison.
