Hi ladies
I'm expecting a DD in a few months and we are set on Violet with Elisabeth as middle name as it has family connections for both which are very important to us. But just seen a reference to Violet Elisabeth on these boards when talking about a horrid child...Googled it & seen she is a brat character in Just William Shock...admittedly spelt EliZabeth... but would most people saintly think of this do you think? What should we do?!

What about Elisabeth Violet.... I think it's lovely.
Dd could be still known as Violet.

I immediately thought of Violet Elizabeth Bott! Was she the one who threatened to 'thcweam and thcweam until I'm thick' ?

Everyone will identify her with Violet Elizabeth Bott and she will be teased unmercifully throughout her life! From one whose parents made a similar mistake...

I think anyone my age (40's) would associate it with Bonnie Langford in Just William.

She will scweam and scweam and scweam.....

Yes, sorry I know the character and I'm 30...

I'll scream and I'll scream. Sorry but it's the first thing I thought of. Being from just William books you always run the risk of it reappearing on tv etc. if you want Violet don't have Violet Elisabeth, also violet from Charlie and the chocolate factory was a major bratt also. Sorry but as much as I want to like violet these 2 little girls spring to mind.

Yes, I would think of Violet Elizabeth Bott and so would all my kids. Martin Jarvis still regularly crops up reading it (brilliantly) on the radio.

I rather like Violet Elizabeth as a character - she's a fearsomely determined child who escapes her over precious parents to go mudlarking with the deeply reluctant and equally appalling William...

Thanks all! So glad I saw this before we named her. Definitely not Elisabeth as first name, we are set on Violet.

But how about adding another middle name before Elisabeth so

Violet... Elisabeth?

I think that inserting another name would work.
Also, I think that if she's just known as Violet, her middle names will rarely get an outing tbh.

I didn't think of the character, but it seems like many would...

How about

Violet Olivia
Violet Eliza
Violet Serena
Violet Cordelia
Violet Georgina
Violet Louisa

Or yes, another middle name would go well.

Violet Rebecca Elisabeth sounds good to me (or maybe Violet Jemima, going by your user name!)

Well I have no idea what any of the references going on here are, haha! I'm clearly the minority though. Shame cos it's a lovely name!

I wouldn't have made the connection and, whilst adults might, kids are unlikely to, especially as her middle name won't be routinely used at school.

If you love it, use it!

I didn't make the connection and I love the name.

One of my DDs has initials which are an absolute MN no-no and it hasn't been mentioned IRL yet. That could be because no one would dare....

Really appreciate all thoughts/suggestions/positive comments.

We will leave Elisabeth in following another middle name, some lovely suggestions here, thanks. Hugely relieved I saw this first before posting the fb introduction where I'm sure some smart-arse would've made a comment!
