The Angel of peace?

My youngest has an angel name so I'm quite fond of them. It's very different. Genuinely not sure what I think. I think I like it!

Is it pronounced as it is spelt i.e Gav-reel?

I have never heard of it before but I actually quite like it!

That's a lovely name. It's bound to be shortened to Gav though and then people will assume his name is Gavin! Would you be ok with that? I have a friend called Christian who everyone knows as Chris. He is forever being called Christopher. Drives him bonkers.

He can always opt for Gav as a nn if he so wishes

James is very popular as a middle name.

I quite like Gavreel although I haven't heard of it before.

Report
CherryPineapple · 03/01/2016 19:04

I am picking James because Gavreel is so different!

Gavriel is a form of Gabriel, who is also known as the Angel of Peace (the angel who appeared to the shepherds in the nativity story). Gavreel would be an alternative spelling. The original being in Hebrew, so a different script with many possible translations.

If you like the meaning OP, then I'd use Gabriel. If you like the v sound more than the b sound but are worried about it being too unusual then I' use it as a middle name.

I've only heard of it from Guy Gavriel Kay the fantasy author.

I haven't ever heard of it but quite like it, although not keen on the shortened 'Gav'.

It's a beautiful name. Gabriel is my favourite ever boys name and Gavreel is just another version of that. And it sounds good (and is fitting as is also biblical) with James Flowers

Gavreell is the same as Gabriel, though Gavreel is usually spelled Gavriil -- which is Gabriel in Russian.

I don't know if this will post but the Cyrillic is Гавриил and the English transliteration is direct -- Gavriil (pronounced Gavreel but not normally spelled that way).
