This week I really like the name Jocelyn for a boy or a girl. DH likes it ok for a girl but point blank refuses to consider it for a boy, claiming he'd get beaten up for it. Thoughts? Would I be dooming my poor little Jos to a childhood of playground torture?

Like it for a girl. No for a boy. Just Jos might work though?

Awful name. All I can think of is joseline hernandez.

What about josiah?

Jocelyn is a slightly bossy girl with plaits.

Love it for a girl; I know one and she is aka Jo.

I have known a few bits named Joss although they did get called Josh a lot by mistake. joss seems kinder for s boy than Jocelyn which seems in the same vein as Evelyn for a man. On the other hand Brooklyn has become quite popular for a boy and it's not v different.

I went to school with a male Joselyn and he was really teased. Not just because of his name but it didn't help. My friend's gorgeous 10-year-old DD, on the other hand, rocks the name

I like Jocelyn a lot for a girl, but would avoid for a boy. Joss or Josiah are cool though. Or maybe Joseph nn Joss??

Love a bossy girl in plaits RJ having been a bossy girl in plaits once myself Don't like Josiah (too biblical)

Hadn't thought of the Jos/Josh mix-up william. That would irk me. I know a little boy called Evelyn!

NN Jo doesn't work with our surname, unfortunately. I guess another reason to avoid Jocelyn. Hmmm.

Lovely for a girl, bit O wouldn't use it for a boy...

If we used it for a girl, I'd probably shorten it to Josie. Or Jos.

I automatically assumed you meant for a boy, not sure why! Um. Not really all that keen either way.

I had a female roommate called Jocelyn who went by Joy. Really liked it!

Lovely for a girl, don't like it on a boy.
The only Jocelyn I know of is a drag queen on Rupauls drag race - it's her stage name. But she was a very lovely drag queen!

I like it for a boy spelled Joscelin or Jocelin.

I know a boy Jocelyn. It's his "proper" name, but he has always been known as Joss, which really suits him. No serious teasing. He doesn't like the full version of his name.

CityDweller · 02/10/2015 09:52

Yes, I guess Jocelin would be a more masculine spelling. I like it more and more for a boy the more I think about it. And Joss is such a lovey nn...
Like Joy as a female nn too.

Joseph a no go, unfortunately, which is a shame as it's a good, honest name!

Yes, love Jonah but it doesn't work with our last name.

Joslyn Fox sounds awesome. I have no issue with DD/DS's name having that association!
