Hi guys
My son will have the initials CJ- I am wondering whether to just call him CJ as a nickname or Cejay as a name. What do you think? The other option is Cai? Thank you

The little girl born on the same day as dd2 who was in the next incubator along for months was just 'CJ'. Didn't stand for anything - her siblings picked it - the family didn't have a name 'ready' as she was so early, so they went with it. I often wonder how she is doing now. This was nearly twelve years ago, so it might be more common to just use initials now. It was a bit unusual at the time, and everyone would ask what it stood for, but it didn't.

My son has those initials but we have never called him by them, just as nobody else in the family is known by their initials.

If you want to call him CJ then call him by the initials, the made up name of Cejay is awful.

Give the child some proper names. You can always use the initials as a nn, but it's really not on to deprive him of a name.

Names like these are rife where I live - we even have one who doesn't actually have a real name - just initials.

Personally i think it's daft, but each to their own.

My son has a girl in his class who everyone calls JJ. It isn't her real name though.

CJ as a nickname. Those are my initials! I liked having a "different" nn as a kid, and my family still calls me Ceej.

Thankfully I have a conventional first name anyway. Please think twice before giving your child the band Cejay....he'll have to explain it constantly. Far better as a young adult being able to introduce himself as "Cai, but call me CJ".

Agree, give him a proper name and use CJ as a nn. Sounds quite cute as a nn but good for him to have the option of a more "formal" name when older. I would steer very clear of Cejay...

Definitely a proper name with CJ as a nn.

I teach a 12 year old CJ. His real name is Christopher John or something, though.

Please don't call your baby Cejay.

Don't do it, unless your name is vicky pollard!! Look, its not a bad name,, but people WILL Judge.

Christopher John on the other hand is actually really nice. Then as he gets older whe can choose whether or not he wants an androgenous, rather common nick name. If he wants to be a hair dresser or night club promotor, its fine - lawyer or accountant, not so much.

Call your baby what you like, if you love it, thats al you need to know.

He will spend the rest of his life having to spell it to people over and over again, daily. He will hate it. People will ask stupid things like "are you sure?" Which will irritate further. Give him a real name and s nickname of CJ. Having said that, I knew a CJ as a kid and he was s bellend, so it's kind of ruined for me.

Thank you for all your comments! :) Yes I wasn't sure about Cejay. Just to confirm, I would not be naming him CJ, that would just be a nickname- but like Plonkysaurus said may name him Cai then he has the option as middle name will start with J.

Call him Charles James (or junior depending on the dad's name) or something if you want him to be called CJ. Cejay is really not a name.

Also TheoriginalEM your post made me laugh thank you! tbh though I have never bought into the whole doctor's/ lawyers name thing. I have seen doctors with unusual names and hairdressers with posh names! My favourite actor was River Phoenix and if my doctor had that name I would think it was pretty cool!

Cejay is ridiculous whereas CJ as a nickname for Charles Joseph (or similar) is pretty cool.

I quite like initial nicknames but obviously with real names. Reminds me of the westwing, I think her characters name was Claudia Jane.

Claudia Jean.

Bit of a Wingnut.

He might appreciate a "proper" name in adult life.
