Theodore, Leopold or Simeon?

Hello ladies,

After much discussing with DH we have now reached our final three for DS due in a few weeks.

We have 2 DDs J osephine and I ris, and we are a bilingual French-English family.

Our final 3 are:

Theodore (nn Theo)
Leopold (nn Leo)
Simeon

What are you first thoughts on these? Which do you think would fit with our DDs best?

1. Theodore, a really solid classic name, and I like Theo as nickname too
   
2. I like Leo, but not so sure about Leopold
   
3. Simeon is perhaps more unusual than the first two, but it sounds a bit simpering or whiny to me

Theo is nice.
Simeon is fab and underused so gets my vote!

I really like Theodore nn Ted (or Theo), it's on my list for DS. I like Leo but not crazy about Leopold. Simeon is my least favourite.

I personally prefer Simon to Simeon, which sounds the same as simian which means ape or monkey.

Otherwise they are all good names. I wouldn't worry about how they "fit" with the other names. Your children are individuals, and won't always be seen in the context of theor siblings.

Don't know if you are in the UK or not, but Theo and Leo are sooooo common around my way. Nice enough, but very common. And if you are in London Theo becomes Fee-o.

In contrast to others, I find the whole Leo/Neo/Theo/Rio (I realise that they are very different names, but fundamentally the same at a sound level) sound very sing song and soft. I prefer names that end in a consonant

Theodore is lovely, but theo is SO popular, is there another nn you could use maybe ted?
Leopold just reminds me of Brussels! Maybe not that helpful.
Simeon is awful, a friend brother is called that always always called Sim, he is a car sales man so not that biblical either!

I never thought of simian but I can picture some playground bullying potential there... Thank you.

I find Theo a bit too popular at the moment but Theodore is beautiful. I really like Leopold as well and Leo more than Theo but worry Leopold might be perceived as a bit poncey?

Sorry OP. In my defence, I spend far too much time with children. I really like Theo and Leo but not the long versions, I do think they sound a bit 'posh' to my unrefined ears. I think a Simeon would just get sick to death of being called Simon.

How would Theodore/Theo be pronounced in French? The others seems more transferable.

Current bump may yet be a Theo ... For you, because of the French requirement, I'd go forLeo

Are you in the UK? People will pronounce Theo Theee-o here (or fee-o depending on accent!) Would that annoy you.

FWIW, I know a Simeon. He doesn't get Simon other than the odd marketing call etc. I don't believe he was ever teased on Simian. But, even if he was, you can be teased for anything. As noted on Theodore!

I absolutely love Simeon was going to use it if I was having a boy so I say go with that
