Baby names

Need a boys name just in case. Re-visisted my shortlist and don't like any of them anymore.

I'm nearly 38 weeks.

dh and I eventually settled on a girls name despite having doubts about that too.We told a few people and didn't get a good response but there's been a famous one in the news recently and its been mentioned in the names that should be revived thread and I love it all over again.

2 private scans have said my baby is a girl. Radiologist said she'd never got it wrong. At my scan last week at a different hospital my doctor kept saying 'he', and the baby is measuring big (3.5kg) and he said that lady who did my scans in the other hospital wasn't qualified. So I'm having a wobble. Dh thinks I'm being silly and won't discuss it. But I've gone as far as putting gender neutral babygros in the hospital bag in 2 sizes.

Anyway, right at the start I thought we were having a boy so I didn't delete my list from here but I've just looked at it again and I don't like any of them anymore. Can you inspire me again?

Our tastes are, slightly retro, not in the top 50, possibly continental, not royal or religious, not with a J,C or W,and maybe nature inspired. Our chosen girls name fits in with that criteria.

No harm in being prepared! Can you share the ones you've gone off? To get the ball rolling:

Iain
Dominic
Niall

Thanks for the reply, Gregory, Hugo and Sebastian were the front runners. I like Dominic but there's a famous one with our surname I also like max (maxwell) but it's too popular. Not really keen on the others, sorry but thanks again!

Some good ideas. The meaning is important too. I like Theo but wouldn't use it because it means god's gift where we live!

We are English with a very English surname but we have French, Welsh and Austrin heritage between us and live in another European country.so Germanic names should work I'm just not that keen on them!

Lucas is ok though from those suggestions. jasper no good because of the J. J it written and pronounced with a Tz here. Not sure about the others. Tell me if I'm being too fussy and my reasons for rejecting names are silly.

I also considered honoring family but dh and I have the same family names on both sides and we don't like any of them!

Ach, you did say no J names, sorry! Have also named DC in foreign parts, it's surely a massive faff. Worth sticking to your guns though. Are there other significant pronunciation things?

Casper
Rufus
Cornelius

We still live in said foreign parts and know a brother and sister called Floor (oft used girls name here) and Tijl (prn Tile). When asked for naming suggestions for the new dog I bit my lip and did not suggest Grout. It was hard.

Just something I've picked up on, did the nhs sonography defintly say its a boy? Or just refer as " he"

I know when I had lots of scans one sonographer kept saying he but just instead of it!!

What about

Alexander

Gregor ( I know it's similar to Gregory)

Scott

Calum

Well I'm not in the UK. I'm having my baby in the public hospital but had all additional scans and tests in the private one. It's a very misogynistic country culturally which is why everyone is telling me I'm being silly. Naturally the consultant would not only say he automatically but would also disagree with any woman hcp!

Re spelling and pronunciations here, c's are K's, b's are p's or v's. So barnaby would be varnavy!

Gregory and Gregor still work. They fit the criteria spot on we just don't like Greg. I like Alexander too but wonder if it works with a surname ending in 'er'

The girls name we have is thankfully written and pronounced the same in both languages and originates from here as does Gregory and Alexander.

There are other similar names that work in both countries I can't use because there are other babies in the family. If it wasn't for that and the royals for example George would be spot on.

I just think it would be easier with the foreign thing lettuce. dh has a J name. Lol at floor and tile!

I have a Gregor and he's honestly never been called Greg by anyone (it was a concern of mine when naming him because I'm not keen on it as a nn either).

It's a bit like that here place, even with the girls names we were rejecting loads for silly reasons. The girls name is someone that bullied me at school and the local word for a creature I'm scared of even though it's cute (Honeybee) but you have to draw a line somewhere or you'd never settle on anything!

Couldn't really use Anatoly here it'd be a bit political. I do like Felix though.

How about Maximillian(sp?) with the nn Max so you can still have Max, but not Maxwell Maxwell always makes me think of the coffee Maxwell house.

Some other possible thoughts:

Iago
Duncan
Ewan/Euan
Hugh
Lawrence
Marco
Milo
Nathaniel
Rafael
Saol

What's your girls name choice?
Perhaps that can me masculinised?

I quite like Marcus actually that's a good one. Not sure if I could get Raphael past Dh. I like Nathaniel too but it's the name of a very dodgy ex of mine.

girls name would be Melissa. Not sure there's a male version!

Yvonne and Margurite were vetoed, Connie,Abbigail, Phoebe and all forms of Sophie shortlisted but the last two rejected because of popularity in both countries.

Lawrence, Nicholas?

I love Dominic, I know with your surname it's the same name as an actor, but he's not that famous, are you likely to be living where you live now for the foreseeable future?

Nicholas is the male form of my name,

You do have a good point about Dominic wiggle, yes he's not that famous and we can't see ourselves moving back, quite like Leo and Leon.

William, can't use 'w' names, there's no W so it's written with an ou or a g, it's also too royal and there are loads of them in the family already.

Need to look up the meanings of some of these. Thanks all.
