Baby names

Name that doesn't sound like a disease or Abba song

Name changed to an infrequently used one for this as going to totally out myself.

My surname is Miah and every girls name we like for DD3 (due in 4 wks) sounds like:

1 - a disease - eg Annie Miah.

2 - an Abba song - Jemima Miah

We have NO IDEA what to call DD3. To complicate matters DH likes something that can be shortened and I like to have a "nice" meaning for his mum who actually wants arabic names. I managed to do arabic for DD1, fudged it a bit with Greek but "good" meaning with DD2.

DD1 is Safina Miah (Saffy)

DD2 is Elaina Miah (Ellie)

For DD3 we have discussed:

Meredith - big no because of Amanda Knox case from DH Hmm
Amy - No from me bad memories
Esme - I like, DH says too hard to say

So help, throw some suggestions at me please!

We have a boys name we agree upon if that helps as a guide to what we like (def a girl though) which is Elijah, but my niece is Eliza so that blocks that one out.

My pleasure Squoosh Grin

Its an ACTUAL problem and my family are no help, the only suggestion i've had is Sylvester. So it can be Sly Miah Hmm

I love Verity but In Laws can't say "V" should have added that condition. "Werity" not really the same.

Will take a look at all the others thanks all.

Cara Miah

Cara means beloved so with your surname it kinda translates as 'my beloved' I think that's beautiful.

If you like Elijah, then what about

Naomi
Sarah
Rachel
Salome
Esther
Gabriela
Susanna

or perhaps:

Selina (based on Arabic Salima)
Farida (has great Arabic meaning: unique, precious)
Aida (like the opera)...

Is your surname pronounced "Mee-ah" or "MY-ah"?

Report
fuzzpig · 27/05/2014 19:50

I assumed mee-ah as that would explain the abba song thing (mamma Mia)

My DO suggested Arejetta (I think it would be Arietta in English - pronounced this way.) She is a lovely classmate who is Muslim. DD doesn't know her ethnic background so no idea where this name originates but we both think it is beautiful.

If its pronounced Mee-ya, hows about Rani or Esther? Theyre quite pretty combos?

I don't understand why you can't have Annie Miah etc if you already have Saffy and Ellie? They are all very similar in sound. Unless you are happy because you have the longer names to combine with the surname. But in that case you could use Annabel, Anoushka, Anastasia, Anita, Anika, Annette or Anais and have the nickname Annie.

Safina Miah
Elaina Miah
Anika Miah (or similar) would be fine.

I also don't see any difference between Jemima Miah and Safina/Elaina Miah. They're 3 syllable names ending in a. What makes one sound like an Abba song and the other 2 not?

Ruth? Maybe names which don't end in a or ie would work better with your surname. Though Sarah could also be nice...
