Aurelia or Arya?

My DH loves Aurelia but I think it may be a bit 'fancy' and difficult for a child to pronounce. I thought Arya could be an alternative.

Opinions? Or what else should we consider?

Yes Aurelia is very hard to pronounce. Which means that I can't pronounce it.

I like Arya, although I think it will rise in popularity due to GofT.

Aurelia is such a beautiful name. If I had a dd3 it is the name I would use. Arya is in my opinion not nearly as lovely. Smile

I'm afraid when I saw Arya, I thought Aryan and I wouldn't use a name with such resonances.

Ooh I didn't think of Aryan similarity - probably strikes that off the list!

Was it Love Actually dolomites? That's where we heard it :)

I'm with meditrina... Arya instantly made me think of Aryan and I'm not even too familiar with the word and the issues but it has instant negative connotations (for me). Sorry.
I do love Aurelia though!
How about

Aurora
Ariel?

Or my personal favourite;

Athena (love this so much)

Afrikat, absolutely right! Grin I knew I'd heard it pronounced by a non-English speaker and it had sounded beautiful. Perhaps not so much if you live in Bootle. Wink

How about Aria? It's a legitimate non-game-of-thrones name, with both Hebrew and Italian (musical) origins.

I never get the appeal of the name aurelia. To me its a jellyfish. Sorry.

Love the name arya. I would assume game of thrones as well. Was it a name in its own right before GoT?

Aurelia is lovely and I also like the suggestions of Aurora and Aria. Amelia or Arianna?

Arya is such a nothing name. Not familiar with Game of Thrones.

Aurelia is beautiful, on the other hand.

You could spell Ayra 'Eira'. Welsh for snow! Said the same I think.

Aurelia. I know how to say that but not Arya!

Pronounced like Aria, I think it's pretty, but I'm not so keen on the way they pronounce it in GoT, which is more like 'Are-ya', like 'are ya going out'. Aurelia seems more like a real name, less trendy IYSWIM.

Arianna?
