So we chose Santiago as a first name... Can you give me ideas for nicknames and second names?

Hello everyone... We chose Santiago over all the other names. However, now struggling with second names and nicknames! Any ideas? X

I'm glad you chose Santiago! Do you have a short list of middle names?

NotADragonOfSoup · 28/02/2013 07:59

A nickname will come with time :)

mummybare · 28/02/2013 08:00

Santa!

vamosbebe · 28/02/2013 08:01

Could you not let the nn come naturally? I'm always wonder why people choose a lovely name only to shorten it. I know, none of my business!
So, how about Santi, Iago, Ant ('n' Dec!).
Beautiful name, by the way, good choice and congratulations on ds.

FoxyRevenger · 28/02/2013 08:02

Sonny? I have a feeling that Sonny in The Godfather was actually a Santiago...?

vamosbebe · 28/02/2013 08:04

Middlename: de Compostela Grin

Ignatious
Albert
George
Frederick

Not very helpful, sorry, having a funny morning.

Lucia2013 · 28/02/2013 09:38

Not really but we liked Noah, Adam.. Names like that.

The guy from the Godfather (one of my favourite films!) was named Santino, which is similar, they called him Sonny.

My mum called him Santi yesterday and my husband likes Tiago. I call him Santiago.

We wanted an English name for a second name, I am so happy we finally got our baby's name :-)

Sonny from The Godfather was Santino. However, Sonny would do as a nickname for Santiago as well! Love the name! Perhaps Marcelo for a middle name?

Lucia2013 · 28/02/2013 10:29

Marcelo is a lovely name! I love Santiago! I wasn't sure before as I have never met a Santiago in the UK but then I though it didn't matter! You are all right about the nickname... it will come in time.

At least we are not wondering how to call my bump anymore!

:-)

Ah yes, Santino! Am in the mood to watch The Godfather now...Grin

Pasiphae · 28/02/2013 11:58

I think Tiago or Santi are great nicknames.
Middle names:
Rupert, Benedict, Elliot, Wilfred, Herbert?

ErikNorseman · 28/02/2013 12:51

Santiago Wilfred? Santiago Herbert? Are you avin a larf?

I personally don't think Santiago needs a mn, but if you must, it should be vaguely Latin. Santiago Luca, Santiago Carlos, Santiago rafi, something like that.

littletingoddess · 28/02/2013 13:25

I know a Marcelo, in Brazil, who is an absolutely lovely person. That may be why I am partial to the name. :)

rachel234 · 28/02/2013 13:41

Santiago is a cool name and I'm sure a nickname (Santy, Tiago or Siggy) will evolve naturally. Also, I know a Sebastian and a Dominic whose names never seem to get shortenend so it is not inevitable that longer names get shortened. My dd's name has 3 syllables too and nobody ever seems to shorten it...

For middle names how about you choose a family name with some meaning to you? They rarely get used anyway.

Pasiphae · 28/02/2013 14:21

As a British middle name, what's wrong with Wilfred? Herbert is rarer but why not.
You're rather rude.

ErikNorseman · 28/02/2013 15:30

Santiago does not go with Wilfred or Herbert. They sound ridiculous together. Rude schmude.

ErikNorseman · 28/02/2013 15:34

Sorry OP I didn't notice you wanted an English mn. Santiago Lucas, Santiago Caleb, Santiago Peter...not Santiago Wilfred Grin

CheeseStrawWars · 28/02/2013 15:47

Santiago Matthias

OkayHazel · 01/03/2013 16:58

Iago! Like the parrot in Aladdin. (And I suppose Othello, but let us not pretend I'm cultured).

FrankWippery · 01/03/2013 17:00

My (Argentinian) godson is called Tiago. They thought about Santiago, but decided on Tiago. I love it.

OkayHazel · 01/03/2013 17:01

(As a nickname)

Middle name should be something like Clint, Jack, or Rafe. Something really cool, and I think one syllable sounds best.

Had to comment on this - I know a Santiago, he is so gorgeous and a truly lovely man.

He introduces himself as Santi.

Best wishes!!

Bartlet4America · 01/03/2013 17:30

(And although it looks weird written down, it sounds really 'right' for him and nice when said out loud... if you get me!)

WhiteHairReally · 01/03/2013 20:53

Both Santiagos we know (one 16, the other 2 rising 3) are known as Santi.
