We are due to have a DS in 2 weeks and my DH and I cannot agree on a name! We both have traditional taste but we can't find one that we both really love. I have a 4 year old daughter and I reeeeeeeaaaaaallly loved her ame when we chose it and still do, but with boys' names I'm just a bit "meh..."

Names that have been discussed but I can't seem t go firm on:

William- love Will but hate Bill and not passionate about William in full if I'm honest
Edward- love Ned and Ted but don't like Edward in full (but feel the need to have a full Sunday name)
Jonas
Felix
Michael- really like this and nn Mikey but I know this would wind up my MiL as it is my FiL's name and he's a chopper!

Am I being daft about the full name requirement? Arrrrgh!!! Any opinions welcome...

Willard or Willoughby instead of William?

Elliot?

Willoughby is lovely.

Edmund/Edgar/Edwin - with NN Ned. but actually I just love Ned on it's own and would happily put that on a birth certificate. There's also Jed, Lucas, Moses, Rex, Lex, Jude, Joel, Joe etc

Felix still seems quite 'out there' but love it, are you okay with Jonas being shortened to Joe?

It would help if we knew what your DD's name is so we can see how it goes...?

Thanks for the suggestions girls...DD's name is Matilda if that helps?

We don't know if DC1 will be DS or DD but if DS then we're going with Joshua Reuben - you're welcome to steal either :-)

If Matilda gets shortened to Tilly, would that be a problem having William as her brother's name?

Report
MJandherdog · 22/01/2013 16:59

Hmm it could be a prob having Will with Matilda but at present she's always Matilda not Tilly. He he he Willy and Tilly! Ooh err!

Alfie and 'Sunday' full name, Alfred - can also be Fred(die)

Back to your own suggestions and Yfronts' idea, how about Theodore then you can have Ted(dy).

Matilda and Arthur sound amazing.
Christopher shortened to Kit?
Philip shortened to Pip?
Patrick shortened to Paddy/Patch?
Wilf " Wil

I love all your shortlist names and Matilda is pretty darn lovely too.
I bet when he comes to you know what his name'll be instantly.

Might Matilda be called Mattie or remain as full Matilda?

Don't think you can have Tilly and Will really. Although if you go for Will don't worry that he might be called Bill/Willy/William unless you want him to. We have a teen Will who is a William-he's just been called Will from birth by everyone and hardly ever called William now. He had about 2 weeks of being called 'Willy' at school, laughed it off, and that was that.

Bearing in mind concerns about Tilly and Will together just go for Edward but always call him either Ned or Ted-whichever you prefer-and that's what he would be known as!

Unless something else comes up that you prefer of course.

Yes, Peter is due a resurgence I think.

Jonah rather than Jonas? He can be Joe?
I love Laurence, he can be Laurie.

Arthur is gorgeous.

I've got a soft spot for Stanley and I think it goes well with Matilda.
Albert (Bertie?)
