Amy
Clara
Cerys
Ailsa
Catriona

I'm not convinced about names that end in ie (they sound like nicknames), so that's why I eliminated Elsie, Marnie, Bonnie, Annie, Sylvie, Katie, Betty

I don't mind these but I'm not wild about them:
Astrid, Hazel, Harriet, Rosalind, Dorothy, Susannah, Leonie, Lucia

These are just personal 'wouldn't go there' names (I know people with these names, nothing against the names themselves): Julia, Georgia, Nina, Hayley, Kirsty, Natasha, Anita

I don't like these ones: Sorcha (sounds like scorch), Seren (sounds like a drug name), Clover (is a plant), Gwen (always brings to mind a women who never managed to be happy for some reason), Miriam (maiden aunt), Roisin (sounds like resin), Nesta (where birds lay their eggs).

Holly just makes me think 'girls of the playboy mansion'...

Loving all the feedback! smile

Lyftiduft Wed 28-Nov-12 22:22:37

I like

Amy
Clara
Holly
Rosalind
Kirsty
Cerys
Annie
Susannah
Leonie

Rosalind is lovely, if I didn't have a D- surname I'd be tempted myself. Clover sounds like a farm animal name, sorry.

Have you looked at meanings, that can get rid of a few names if you're fussy like me?

EvenIfYouSeeAPoppy Wed 28-Nov-12 22:26:25

Gosh, that's a long longlist!

FWIW, here are my faves:

Astrid
Seren
Nina
Clara
Rosalind
Annie
Miriam
Natasha
Roisin
Susannah
Lucia

Can't go wrong with Lucia, Clara or Rosalind; gorgeous, classic names.

ATourchOfInsanity Wed 28-Nov-12 22:31:38

I'd take off Harriet - loads around at the moment and I remember a girl at school who was called Hairy Harry. Hattie also just sounds silly and as if she should have a hat fetish. Also a dog I knew was called Hattie so see it as a pet name, not for DC's. V. personal reasons I know!

I'd prob also take out Seren as I want to add ITY to the end and then it becomes a bit wishy-washy. Not sure about Sorcha either, makes me think of Scorcha (as in what a fat topless brit man in 40's would exclaim upon arriving in Spain on a nice day).

Hope that doesn't offend at all, just personal opinions to try to narrow it down a bit!

Flutterbutterby Wed 28-Nov-12 22:46:26

Lovely list!

Names from your list that could make our list:
Astrid
Sorcha
Miriam
Ailsa

Names I like but wouldn't use myself:
Georgia
Seren
Lucia
Amy
Harriet
Nina
Clara
Natasha (although possible mn)
Roisin
Hazel
Catriona
Clover (I really quite like this one!)
Gwen
Susannah (mn potential)

Names I'm not so keen on:
Julia (although like Juliet)
Elsie (although like Elsa)
Dorothy
Leonine
Anita (although like Anya)
Nesta
Betty
Bonnie
Holly
Rosalind
Hayley
Kirsty
Annie (although don't mind Anna)
Cerys
Sylvie
Katie
Marnie

It sounds as if you have some favourites already and possibly hadn't realised! What's your top 10 looking like now? Has this helped?

Gwen - like
Ailsa - not for me.

HotHotNot Wed 28-Nov-12 23:41:02

My top 10

Astrid
Nina
Clara
Holly
Hazel
Sylvie
Katie
Roisin
Susannah
Dorothy

They are all different types, I couldn't really narrow down as what suits your family and type of DD is so personal. FWIW I think Sylvie, Susannah, Holly and Roisin are v flowing and feminine. Dorothy, Katie and Clara have an old fashioned but practical, classic feel and Astrid, Nina and Hazel cool, fun but strong names.

telsa Wed 28-Nov-12 23:43:35

Astrid
Amy
Nina
Clara
Rosalind
Sylvie
Gwen
Miriam
Natasha
Dorothy

these are my faves.

YouCanBe Thu 29-Nov-12 08:17:34

Roisin is pronounced Rosheen by the way, hollyw.

flutterb Hmm. I think my current top ten is...
Oh, no, I'm not down to ten yet, I would have to have a proper think first! Haha.
