And the only one I really don't like is Bonnie. To me it's the Blue Peter dog.

NaiceDude Wed 28-Nov-12 14:13:15

OP, that's always the best way of figuring out your real feelings, shame it's never simple to just know which ones you really like best! smile

I like...

Elsie
Harriet
Clara
Holly
Hazel
Annie
Katie
Susannah

Quite like Dorothy too, very sweet! My favourites on your list are Holly and Susannah, and I love Elsie...

TheEnthusiasticTroll Wed 28-Nov-12 14:22:46

Julia
Hollie
Lucia

Those are the only ones I particularly like from the list. I also have one of them for my dd.

TheEnthusiasticTroll Wed 28-Nov-12 14:24:05

Would ceren be pronounced geran? If so I like that too.

RillaBlythe Wed 28-Nov-12 14:24:32

Astrid, Nina, Susannah,

YouCanBe Wed 28-Nov-12 14:31:47

I thought Leonie was my favourite for about a day, but really I am not sure yet at all!

I am glad that there aren't too many people coming on to say they hate 99% of them.

My favourites:
Elsie
Amy
Clara
Hayley
Rosalind
Katie
Gwen
Ailsa

Do you know what they all mean? For me that would make a big difference. The reason I like Amy so much is because of its meaning, loved. I don't know most of the others on your list, so I just picked what I like the sound of.

Also, several of these are originally nicknames - would you use them as they are or put the long form on the birth certificate so DD can use it when she's older? (e.g. Elsie/Betty = Elizabeth, Annie = Anna, Katie = Katherine). Kirsty didn't make it onto my shortlist but Kirsten might.

Leonie reminds me of that X factor winner (so a no) and she probably wouldn't thank you for calling her Gwen!

FellatioNelson Wed 28-Nov-12 15:08:25

Bloody hell, that IS a long list!

Sylvie
Astrid
Sorcha
Clover
Hazel
Marnie
Julia (although I prefer Juliet)

there we are. Done.

FellatioNelson Wed 28-Nov-12 15:09:12

Seren is getting very common popular indeed.

TheEnthusiasticTroll Wed 28-Nov-12 15:17:51

Is ceren pr geran?

YouCanBe Wed 28-Nov-12 16:27:27

I don't know what they all mean yet no, it is something I'd think about, maybe once I have cut a few. My book doesn't say Miriam means bitter though incidentally.

I probably would put Elizabeth on the birth certificate for Betty etc. yes.

Seren is pronounced pretty much phonetically I guess!

I have never seen Marnie. Maybe I should in case it totally puts me off that name!

YouCanBe Wed 28-Nov-12 16:29:52

Marianne is lovely too TSC, it nearly went on my longlist but I decided I slightly preferred Miriam. I do like the short Mari though... Don't encourage me to add another one on!

Wishfulmakeupping Wed 28-Nov-12 16:36:40

TheSecondComing Wed 28-Nov-12 17:03:26

I have a Katie and a Clara. The other short list names were Harriet (which would've been dc3's name if he'd not been be-penised)
Elsa/Elsie, Rosa, Maggie, Marianne, Dulcie (might have been having a moment then!) not keen on Holly, Bonnie, Anita, Clover, Natasha, Kirsty or Hayley. They seem a bit 'of another decade' iyswim?

SoupDragon Wed 28-Nov-12 17:04:20

Seren
Hazel
Cerys
Ailsa
Roisin

Um... That's it. There are many that aren't bad but just not ones I could term a favourite/top ten

MerryMarigold Wed 28-Nov-12 17:10:58

My favs would be:
Astrid (nice and strong)
Julia (also strong and classy)
Nina (LOVE it - soooo cool, but classic)
Cerys (on my shortlist for dd)
Gwen (again super cool)
Miriam (one of my all time favs)
Susannah (like nn Susie as well)
Leonie (love it)

My dislikes:
Amy (I find it really sickly, like a pink dolly)
Harriet (too horsey)
Holly (too chav)
Rosalind (too posh)
Hayley (round here would become 'Highly' and is very council estate)
Katie (boring)
Natasha (meh)
Roisin (most people can't pronounce it in England, but nice if you are somewhere people know how to say it)
Nesta (isn't that a brand of curry?)
Betty (old lady un-chic)
Dorothy (ditto)
