My partner and I were talking last week in a loud bar and he said something about Keith - I misheard him and thought he said Heath - and suddenly I thought Oh my! What a lovely lovely baby name. However - my parents and grandparents really are bothering me as every time I have spoken about a baby name they have been quite rude and dismissed it and said Oh no you can't have that! Which infuriates me. So I am terrified that they'll hate it.
So Mumsnetters - what do you think of Heath?!
Heath is nice. Only thing is I know one little Heath and when his mum brings him to toddler group the lady at the door asks his name. She says Heath. The lady says "keith?". Mum looks exasperated. This happens every time.
I don't usually like surname names but do like Heath, my friends son is Heath and it really suits him, it doesn't shorten to anything bad either.
I like it. But the main reason for my post is to advise you not to talk to anyone about names until your LO is born, it's way more hassle than its worth!
Heath is lovely. You are unlikely to share the same tastes in names as your grandparents, and if you did DC probably wouldn't tank you for it! Don't tell them names til the baby is born when they will be so happy they will be much less rude!
Ha ha - good advice. It's just my mother drives me mad - she is already too involved and wants to know what name I am giving him incase it's awful. I have said a few that we were mulling over and she pulls a face and says no, or it's too this or too that. So as I am quite passionate about Heath I have forbidden partner from telling her it incase she says anything negative. She asked 20 times yesterday and I said I wouldn't - then when I went to the toilet she tried getting my partner to tell her - he didn't because he knows I would kill him. urgh!!!!
My MIL is much the same! She once reacted to the suggestion of Reuben as if I'd announced any future grandson would be named Adolf Ghengis :-)
Trust me they will eventually love any name they come to associate with a scrumptious little relative!
washngo that worries me - I don't want him to have difficulties with it.
Inspired by this thread I have just sent mother an email explaining how upset her opinions have made me and asking her kindly to refrain from asking about it again. Feel better.
Heath Ledger
Heathcliffe
Hope your emails work. Or you'll just have to start feeding her such ridiculous suggestions that she gives up.
Feck what your parents and grandparents think.
I actually really like it. He's bound to be very handsome with a name like that! In my experience people quickly reconcile themselves to their grandkids having unusual names. I've known more than one set of GPs to even get a bit smug that their grandchild doesn't have a run of the mill name.
I like it very much! I would have used it as a middle name for a boy if I'd have had one.
Thanks everyone
No one has said anything negative so that has made me feel a lot better. My partner is now 100% sold on Heath. I like it a lot. But I also love George. But I know deep deep down I am leaning towards George because I know family will approve. I have a problem where I spend my whole life worrying about what others think. Hate that! Squoosh love it!
I really like it. Wouldn't be a name I would usually consider but actually I think it's great. Go for it!
