My shortlist keeps in growing lol! I'm not sure which name to pick. Although I do have 9 weeks to device. I'm not sure whether popularity is an issue as my name was not popular when I was young.

So my favourites are:
Eleanor- family links
Genevieve
Vivienne
Jasmine
Isabelle
Francesca

This is my first so I'm not sure what is popular in my side of town.

I think Vivienne is beautiful and sophisticated would have liked this for mine but dh was not as keen.

Francesca is also lovely and not as common now as some other names!

Genevieve and Francesca. Both beautiful names for a little girl and as a grown woman,

Eleanor and Genevieve would be my favourites, if we ever have another girl I'm adamant Genevieve will be one of her names.

Thanks for your input. Eleanor and Francesca seem to be favourites. Although I like Vivienne and Genevieve because they are not as popular.

I just don't know how to narrow it down. Will I know when I meet her? I feel so out of the loop- maybe I'm over thinking it.

Isabelle/Isobel/Isabel are all too popular.

My favourite is Eleanor.

Yes Eleanor is a lovely name. It's just the nicknames Elle, Ella and Ellie are popular. They are equally nice though.

I feel the same way about Genevieve. I love the nn Evie- but it seems so popular. Do you think that it will change this year?

I think Evie/Eve/Ava/Eva will be popular for a while yet.

Do all the names flow well with your surname? Do you have a middle name in mind? Which combinations would work well and do they make good initials (not spelling a word etc)?

Eleanor is a nice name.
I love Genevieve and Vivienne. Vivi is a great NN.
Like Francesca. classy name.
Jasmine is OK, but prefer Yasmin.
The world doesnt need another Isabella!

Leonora or Lenora?
Evangeline
Yasmina
Eleri

Having said that, I think Eve is much nicer than Genevieve. You don't need the "Genevi" bit!

My surname sounds slightly like Parker. So the uh ending names do not flow that well imo.

I prefer the Elea-nor pronunciation rather than Elea-nuh, which is more common.

Eleanor- yes but prefer Elinor
Genevieve - yes
Vivienne - yes
Jasmine - no
Isabelle - yes
Francesca - no

Genevieve is beautiful. NNs could be Eve/Evie/Jenny. In a similar vein have you thought of Guinevere? I love it, with Guin as a NN.

Oooh i love them! Love them, love them - just a shame OH wouldn't agree to some of them :-( - i always wanted an Isabelle / Isobel however step dd is Annabel so too close - however it's now a v popular name so glad in that respect!

Oh and in order

Genevieve
Francesca
Eleanor
Jasmine
Vivienne
Isabelle

Thanks, I love them all, but I think I'll take Isabelle and Jasmine out of the Shortlist.

Eleanor seems to be popular on this thread- but will still consider it as it is my mum's middle name. My order of preference- likely to change as I'm annoyingly indecisive- is:

Genevieve and Vivienne are neck and neck at the moment.
Eleanor
Francesca

I would use a single syllable middle name as the names are a bit of a mouthful.

Genevieve and Vivienne both lovely - my mum was a Genevieve, her family called her Vivi.

Genevieve Clara/Iris/Tess
Vivienne Hope/Cate/Sara

(not all single syllable but short enough)

Oooh I like Vivienne Hope and Genevieve Iris Smile.

Vivienne Joy
Vivienne Hope
Vivienne Ruth
Vivienne Maeve (too many 'v's in that maybe?)
Vivienne Belle (that way you still get a bit of an Isabella in there!)
Vivienne Faye

How about Nora or Nell as shortened versions of Elenor? (It's on my list & I can't choose)
Quite like Genevieve too.

Report
roadlesstravelled · 05/03/2012 18:48

Vivienne Joy sounds nice.

I like Nora as a nn, but my family aren't so keen on. Eleanor could be very popular this year it seems.

I think they're all nice-sounding names. I would probably narrow them down by looking up their meanings and asking which ones best reflect your aspirations for your DD.

I notice that you've chosen traditional spellings except for Isabelle, which is the traditional French version. The traditional English-language versions are Isabel or Isobel, although Isabelle has overtaken them both in the birth register in recent years.

(I've been looking this up recently, as per my comments on anothe thread).
