Felicity

if DS (age5) had been a girl, we would have called him Felicity. For some reason, we haven't been considering the name for this baby. I don't know why.

What are your thoughts on the name? It is nit common at all where we live - I work with children, as well as having spent several years on the playgroup circuit, and can only recall one Felicity from several years ago who must be 18+ now.

Is it too frilly? Does it suit a 'dainty' girl more? (not a problem if the baby took after my side of the family, more so if she took after DH's!)

What about nicknames? I can't think of any. And what about middle names - I can't think what 'goes' with Felicity.

Flick is the nn I know for felicity. I think it's a nice name though I wouldn't choose it myself as its the name of my dad's secretary and she's completely dotty.

I have a friend who is felicity - she's know as fliss to everyone. I think it's a nice name

Is it possible that she wouldn't have her name shortened? I know lots of little Rebeccas and Daniels who are never shortened, for example. It's just that I don't like Flick or Fliss, etc.

Middle name thought were: Felicity Annabel, Felicity Eleanor, Felicity Isobel, Felicity Abigail. I like Mary as a middle name but don't think it goes with Felicity.

I have a Felicity. I had always said if I had a girl this is what she'd be called.

When I had my dd, there was a part of me that slightly wasn't sure if it was the right name, but didn't want to regret not going with the name I'd always liked. She's 9 months old now and I love her name. We get mixed reactions, no-one has said they didn't like it but you can tell by their reactions. But it's lovely when someone really likes her name.

I love it, and I know two who are nicknamed Flea and Flick, respectively. In my mind it is a bit of a posh name, but neither of the Felicitys that I know are particularly Hoorayish.

Would a different nickname help? I do think it's a bit long not to be shortened a lot in day to day life. Also heard of one nicknamed Liss if that helps?

I have an 18 month old Felicity - haven't met another one yet. People seem to love her name when I tell them. Her nn is Flossie or Miss Fliss when she's being a stroppy madam! Middle name is Violet, but that's a family name, not because we thought it went well with Felicity.

Have a nearly three Felicity Faith.Haven't met another one yet,but loads of Felicity threads on Babynames at the moment,so becoming a bit pissed off in case it's becoming too popular!! We use Flissy Miss as a NN, loathe the NN Flick and I sometimes use Fe.My dad calls her Filly,which is a little too 'horsey' IMHO.
Maiden-How bizzare that we were going to have Violet as a middle name[my Grandmothers name],but then my husband said that his mom may feel left out and as her mothers name was Doris I couldn't do it!!

Is it too posh? We don't live in a posh area at all, I would worry about teasing. As I've said I don't know any little Felicitys.

Lissie is a nice nickname. I think of Felicity as a solidly middle-class name.

Our DD is Felicity and I am soooo pleased we used the name. Don't know any others in RL and all ages of the family like it. She is Fizzy when not using her full name as it suits her so well!

We live in the Welsh Valleys and noone has commented it being middle class or anything so if we can use it here you will be fine
