What do you think of Albin for a boy? It's quite a common name in Sweden but not sure it works over here?

I think it probably depends on the mix in your neighbourhood (and more importantly future schools should you be expecting to stay in the UK that long). If it's pretty multicultural I can't see that the name should be a problem. It's not that different from Albert which seems to be fairly popular here.

I only ever heard it as a french name so pronounced Al-BAn (close enough anyway, that sound doesn't exist in english) which is OK.

If you pronounce it al-been or even worse all-been then albinos and all sort of garbage jokes come to mind.
