Does Jude seem super-popular?

It's currently our front runner. I'm in Scotland and it came in at number 95 in the most popular boy baby names of 2010. It was joint 95th with Ciaran, which to be honest surprised me, as I perceive Ciaran as being a much more popular name here.

How popular is Jude where you are?

Just called my 4 week old Jude :) and only know of one other, aged 4.

I'm in south east England by the way.

I don't know of any little Judes.

I know one age 9 months, one age 6. From talking to friends about their baby name shortlists, I'd say it's getting slightly more popular but isn't turning into the next William / Harry just yet!

Excellent choice, agurrell. :)

Sounds to me that it's not overused, yet at the same time, not totally "out there". This pleases me :)

It's just started to become used quite a lot round here. It may be lowish down in the top 100 but it's leapt there suddenly from seemingly nowhere. So it's not popular per se but is very now iyswim. I know 4 under 4, 3 boys and 1 girl. It will be one of those names associated with a certain brief period of time.

That suits me :)

I know 2. One is 25 years old and the other is 7 years old so I.don't think it's in danger of becoming over popular or faddy.

I suppose it's become popular via Jude Law. It just has negative associations for me.

  1. Jude the Obscure - what a desperately depressing life he had!

  1. St Jude. Forever tainted by people confusing him with Judas Iscariot, so that no one ever prayed to him until they were in utter despair. The saint of last resort!

I have a ten year old Jude, and I've never met another one under 60! Thats in Ireland though, may be different in Scotland. I have read Jude the obscure and couldn't care less about either that or Iscariot!

He might, though.

Doubt it, Percy.

I have a DS Jude who is 2.5. Have not met another since he was born and have always had v positive reactions to it. Best name ever in my opinion!

I have a DS Jude who is 1 - we know of only one more who is 9. I think the name Jude is a perfect mix of biblical/classical/cool imo and I love love love it Grin

Very much doubt he will give a toss Percy. It would be a pretty odd thing to be upset by. Anyway, if he doesn't like it when he is older,he has an equally excellent middle name he could use.

Not v popular but will probably become more so.
It is on my shortlist if baby is a boy.

Couldn't agree more, freyamalaya.

The Jude the Obscure and St Jude connections don't put me off. Plus, I can't wait to sing Hey Jude to the little man. :)

I know a baby, a 2 year old and a 7 year old with that name. I love it - I have a Thomas Hardy obsession as I have a Tess!
