Really struggling to agree on names

26/40 with DC2 and DH and I CANNOT agree on names! DD is Naomi Rachael, which we both love but it was the only name we both loved (boy or girl) and if she'd been a boy we'd have been a bit stuck. Now it seems like there's nothing that both of us love, only compromises that we think are ok and I don't really want to settle for ok.

I really want something where there won't be 10 other kids at school with the same name, but not way out. Something with a similar vibe to Naomi, but all the other Biblical names I come up with get dissed by DH.

Please help! Oh, and no names beginning with N (cos of Naomi) or M (first initial of our surname).

Leonie? Zoe? Melissa?

Do you know you are having a girl or are you looking for boy's names too?

We haven't found out the sex.

I like quite a few of those mentioned, but DH has vetoed them.

Oooh, really like Lucas! Nathan?

What does DH like, so as to give us an idea of what sort of names to throw out there?

Girls: Abigail, Miriam, Leah

Sorry swap Miriam for Esther. Realise no 'M' names.

Can you do a N name if it's for a boy instead of girl? If not, have Jesse instead.

I really don't want 2 N names whether DC2 is pink or blue!

DH really wants Robert (his GF name). Robbie is just about bearable, but I hate Robert, and that is what would go on the birth certificate. He also likes Daniel, but I think there are just too many Daniels about.
He also has a penchant for naff 70s names.

2 names which we both quite like are Adam and Abigail, but both of those have been used by close friends recently and I'm just not sure about that.

I have v similar taste to KatieMiddleton! but DH doesn't like any of those (I've suggested all of them, I think).

Actually I don't like any of those names very much except Leah Grin

What about Sebastian? Or is that too fancy for your DH? He sounds rather pedestrian in his tastes.

Robyn for a girl is sweet but Robert is not v exciting.

So, you like Biblical names. He likes classic, traditional names. There must be a middle ground there somewhere.

What Anna, Dinah, Deborah, Hannah, Judith, Rebecca, Ruth, Sarah, Susanna for girls?

Or

Benjamin, David, Ethan, James, Joel, Jonah, Jonathan, Joseph, Joshua, Reuben, Samuel, Simeon, Simon, Tobias, Zachary for boys?

I like Robert but only if the DC is called Bobby. I love Bobby. :)

Daniel is ok.

Peter? I really like Peter!

I love Robyn, but our best man's wee girl is called Robyn.
The only one of those girl's names I'm keen on is Rebecca, which DH also doesn't mind, but it just seems a bit ubiquitous.

Of those boys names I like Ben and Daniel, but they are ten a penny round here. Don't mind Joel, Jonah, Jonathan, Reuben and Samuel, but DH isn't keen...

Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhh!

What about Nathaniel for a boy?

Report
CheerfulYank · 14/11/2011 22:01

Roderick? Roddy for a nn? :o

Nathaniel is really nice, Nathan and Nate are nice nn. Joseph? Close to Joel and Jonah.

If you like Becket and Ben, you could always go for Bennett and call him Ben. Is especially nice if you're a Pride and Prejudice fan. :)

I don't think Rebecca is any where as popular as it used to be. I think Mary is due a revival but it starts with 'M'. What about more Greek or Roman names like Helena, Sophia, Julia, Juliet, Thea, Althea, Penelope?? Or Lydia going back to biblical?

What about Benedict instead of Benjamin? Getting a bit more Roman now, what do you think of: Julian, Paul, Anthony, Luke?
