Names to go with Rufus and Betty (Beatrice)

So far we have:

Fergus
Finian
Albert (Albie)

though we love none of those names. It can't be one syllable, and Oscar, Felix, Freddie, Dominic, Rupert, Henry are ruled out because of close family/friend connections.

We love Tabitha for a girl.

My due date today and we are going for Albert or Tabitha so rather predictably I think these names are great.

Romilly, Theodore/Hugo/Sebastian?

Love Tabitha and Albert but prefer nn. Bertie.

How about Bungle? It didn't seem very popular on my recent thread but we love it.

Nathaniel, Miles, Edward, Oliver, Luke, Jonathan, Mark, Frederick/Freddie, Lawrence, Peter, Luke, William?

Thanks everyone. I love Frederick, but it's my brother's name. I don't really like the more traditional names on the whole. Plus we have a really really common surname, so something a bit more out of the ordinary would be best.

LOVE Bitsy as a nn for Tabitha! Much better than Tabby.

But couldn't have a Bertie montsi with a Betty, even though I love it.

Great minds, waitingforskinnyjeans. Good luck!

Any more? My DH and mum like Hector, but what nn?

Ooh, it does tattychicken! Thanks. Fergus is my favourite, by DH thinks it's too Scottish/Irish or we're too English - whichever way you look at it. I don't agree.

I'm almost loathe to share it, but I've just named DS2 Ira, and I love it!

phlossie · 02/11/2011 18:55

See I love Inigo, Idris and Ezra but they're too 'out there' for my DH. Ira is awesome, but I suspect he'd feel the same about that. Congrats on the baby, btw Smile

what about Hester for a girl?
For a boy Dexter or Bruno?

Thank you! I love Ezra too. How about Hector? Had DS2 been DD2, he would have been Penelope, nn Nell.

Hector is fab and from your list Albert.

But that partly because I have a thing about names ending in the same way Rufus and Fergus have very similar endings.

Love your first two dcs names :)

I'm just going back and forth between Iris and Beatrice if dc4 is a girl

Rufus, Beatrice and
Quentin
Monty
Xavier
all sound great together. Fergus is nice too imo. Love Tabitha for a girl.

I'd avoid Hector due to the negative meaning (bully, tormentor) and the lack of nice nicknames (Heck Grin).

Good strong names - I have a Hector chosen for the fact that you can't shorten it although some have already sortened it to 'Hec'.

Also - Wilfred, Orson, Dexter, Stanley, Albert, Ralph.

I love Fergus, Marcus, Quentin and Inigo and think they go well with Rufus and Betty.

The meaning of Hector would put me off.

Stanley's on the list (partly also because my dd suggested 'Poostand', which I thought could be shortened to Stan!) Thank you.

DD may have been Ferdinand, but I'm not sure about it. Liking Phineas and Benedict too...

sonniebonnie - I LOVE Inigo (and Ezra too) but DH can't cope with them - too out there for him!
