I like it but wouldn't use it in the town I live in. It would scream 'chav'. If you live somewhere nicer than me go ahead :o

My DD is called Scarlett and we love it. We are not chavvy and we know of no other little girls called Scarlett in our area. Any names can appear chavvy if you live in a rough area as you associate the child with the area rather than what they are actually called.

I like it. Who cares if some people think it's chavvy anyway, it's better than a dull name.

Really love Scarlett - couldn't care less if anyone thought it was chavvy. Unfortunately my husband doesn't care for it so it is not on my list!

I like it very much - more associated with Scarlett Johansson now than O'Hara, isn't it?

LOL Thzumbazombiewitch, I think my DH came up with the name Scarlett after having a thing for Scarlett Johansson!

I think it's lovely. I always thought Scarlett O'Hara was a great name. Think the Chavez thing is a red herring. Chaviness generally comes from actions of parents, rather than a name.

Its not a name for me, but I must say I've never ever met a chavvy Scarlett.

Never thought of the name as chavvy. I think it is a great strong name. I know a little Scarlett and she is fantastic (and not a chav!)

I don't like the "scar" sound, and "scarlet woman" connotations would put me off.

How about Charlotte, which sounds quite similar? Or on the red theme, Ruby?

I'm not keen. When I had my ds a woman on my post natal ward had a tiny 5lb something baby and called her scarlett - didn't suit her at all.

My dd is a Scarlett, with Georgia as her middle name- I hope you wouldn't class us as chavs though!!

Report
justhayley · 03/11/2011 10:15

I think it's beautiful and have never thought of it as chav at all!

Report
mrsravelstein · 03/11/2011 10:17

it's dd's middle name. beautiful name and i've only ever heard it on distinctly unchavvy people.

mollyscarlettmum · 03/11/2011 10:20

We have a Scarlett Grace. We liked both names but as she was bright red when she was born Scarlett really suited her. She is defo not a Grace, don't think it's chavy at all

CarrieInAnotherBabi · 03/11/2011 11:46

no i don't think its chavvy at all, just more concered if some people consider it a bit racey

Report
PattySimcox · 03/11/2011 12:25

Very popular with middle class families round here - to counteract those who said it sounds chavvy.

Wouldn't consider it racey

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 03/11/2011 13:10

love it but have found it to be very popular no matter what "class" the parents are

Report
ragged · 03/11/2011 13:14

Very popular, some of the most conservative (manners & dress sense) people I know have DDs called Scarlet.

Ephiny · 03/11/2011 13:51

It's not my favourite name (it's the 'scar' part I think, and it seems a bit of a harsh sound, Charlotte is nicer and softer IMO).

But wouldn't consider it 'racy' - why would you think that? I wouldn't associate it with any particular social class either.

I like it, but what would you use for nn? (I know that's not especially important for everyone)
