to use a name beginning with A with a surname that is a noun??

Can't decide if it would be overlooked or would make my child an easy target. Opinions gratefully received!

Like the noun is something like "cook" and so you are wondering if "A Cook" is a bit mean?

Depends on the word. If its "Dick", or anything slightly mean/rude/funny, then don't do it. If its something normal like Cook, yes, I think its fine.

I had this problem and I avoided it.... and so didn't get to use one of my favourite names Sad what's your surname??

It will not be overlooked.... at somepoint in their life someone (maybe even them) will spot and wonder why you did something like that to someone you love. My Dad has a comedy name and hates it.

Thanks. I agree, my instincts tell me that it could make my child's life a living hell which is why I avoided it with my daughter. I wish we had an 'easier' surname - initials A, B and I D are out of the question to avoid any hint of comedy :) oh well, can't have everything. Back to the minefield that is child naming!

my mum went to school with a girl who had the first initial P and the last name was ennis. So can happen with different letters aswell, this is deffinitly one that bullys will pick up on for sure.

I wouldn't.

The major of my old home town was A Dick.

I remember reading an interview with an Alan Pratt and he said he always wondered what the hell his parents were thinking!!

I know a Pete Orridge, but I am also an "A. Noun". It is fine, my surname is a very common surname.

There's a soap star called Zoe Lister who of course appears in initial, surname format as Z Lister!

Think of A Yourname on an invite list, piece of mail etc & if there's any chance of it causing a mild snigger I'd say best avoid!!
