We have just found out that we are having a dd. Have been looking at names and nothing really grabs me except the name we have always liked and had for a few years which is Jemima Rose. She will have 4 big brothers who all have classic english royal names. What do people think ? Or any other suggestions

For some reason it makes me think of playschool.

Congratulations on a dd.

I'm afraid I don't like Jemima - it reminds me of the Aunt Jemima pancake mix, and I don't like the nickname Jem (too masculine).

i like it congratulations, i have also just had a girl after four boys and it is lovely and her big brothers already dote on her!

btw we found it really hard to name our dd, it took us two weeks after she was born to agree on a name Hmm

Jemima is a lovely name, infact it was on our list, as were felicity but dp said no, Eliza, Violet, Beatrice/beatrix, Evangeline, Genevieve and many more! but just some more ideas for you.

we settles on Merryn in the end :)

congratulations and be prepared to be totally overwhelmed with girly stuff, ihave been given so many lovely outfits etc, my daughter has more clothes than i do!!

Hey 4mad Wink

I love the names you've chosen OP! Jemima's lovely, not uber popular either which is a bonus for me. I love the Rose bit too as that's what my dd's name is shortened to.

Delphine Rose
Abigail Rose

4madboys could I ask what middle name, if any, you gave your dd Merryn? Its my no. 1 name at the moment (not quite DH's but I might be able to persuade him...) should we have girl. I'm undecided on Emily, April or Katie!

4madboys · 17/02/2011 14:40

our dd has two middle names as dp and i couldnt decide!

so she is Merryn Lola Eden :)

we quite liked rose as a middle name as well.

and i also liked Eliza Meredith as a name.

btw if you use merryn as a name expect lots of people to say 'mary?' or 'merry' and to have say NO MERRYN! lol, we love it and have had lots of comments that it is unusal etc :)

I did sort of expect that to be the case 4madboys. My sirname starts 'Red....' so I'm still not quite sure if Merryn Red... rolls off the tongue well. Its such a pretty name though. Love Merryn Lola Eden. Sorry blueberryjam, I shouldn't be hijacking your thread Blush

I absolutley adore the name Jemima.

Is Rose a family name?

The reason I ask, is if not, it's a bit of a 'filler' MN, i.e. it seems to be one of those generic MNs parents seem to use just for the sake of having a middle name.

Other common fillers at the moment are Grace and Mae/May.

I prefer to see non-fillers used as a MN, unless the filler is a family name, which obviously it is in some cases.

DO it, I LOVE Jemima! I really want it (am expecting a girl at the moement) but DH has vetoed.

I think glam Jemima Khan rather than all these dated playschool and puddleduck references. Also love Jem, Mima and Mimi as possible nn's.

Oddly - We are probably going for a variation of Rose instead Smile
