Abigail?

Is it a bit boring?

I like it because it means 'fathers joy' and we lost our twin daughters last April/May and although he would never admit it, (I knew all along) mny DH really wanted another daughter. We found out yesterday at the scan and I can't put into words how emotional he was, it was quite moving. I had to tell him Mum on the phone as he couldn't speak through the tears.

I'm not really keen on the shortenings o fit, but my sister asked why it needs to be shortened at all and I can see her point.

Our twins were called Imogen and Megan and I was a similar, pretty sounding name. Any other suggestions welcome.

Love Abigail. It is pretty and traditional and is one of those names that never goes out of fashion either.

I do like Abby for short though.

Hi midori I think it's a lovely name. I know another family who chose this name partly because their daughter would then have the choice of full name and other abbreviations as she got older. She's usually known as 'Abigail' though, and none of the abbreviations.

I think you have a really beautiful reason for choosing that name and it fits wonderfully with your other daughters' names too. Congratulations to both of you, and I'm so glad your daughter has a lovely daddy who is so excited for her to be born :)

Definitely go for it, I say - it works on all levels, and though its classic it's not particularly popular at the moment so no worries about it seeming 'boring'. I love it :)

Abigail is a lovely name I agree there is no need to shorten it at all, just be firm with the people who do feel the need for Abi or Abs! x

Nice name, can be formal or casual, all Abi's I know are nice, FWIW all spell it Abi not Abbie, Abbey etc as then it is propely short for Abigail if that makes sense!!

Thankyou. I don't mind 'Abi' for short, just much prefer Abigail.

I think for now DH and I have decided on Abigail, but we won't use it until baby is born anyway. He did ask if I was making the meaning up just to convince him to like it!

It is v nice especially with the meaning, I dont think it necessarily needs to be shortened. I know a baby Abigail she is only ever refered to as Abigail not Abi or anything

My goddaughter is Abigail, I love it. Particularly appropriate for you with the meaning too.

Spell it properly though! I used to know an 'Abbeygayle' when I was at school [retching smiley]
