Opinions on Augusta?
I am flabbergasted that it is one of the few names dh and I can actually agree on! And I think Gussie is rather a cute nn (although I am sure it is not to everybody's taste!)
I am not sure if it is a bit 'too much' although I am not sure what it is too much of!

Would love some opinions.
Middle name would be Augusta something Denise.
Not sure what the something would be, possibly Mary.

It is unusual, and does make me think of lovely lazy summer days. Does also make me think of Augustus Gloop though. sorry.

Don't really like it - sorry. Firstly it sounds extremely grown-up/clenched (similar to Patricia), secondly because none of the parts of it are very nice "org" "gust" "ter", thidly because it sounds a little bit like disgusting, fourthly because "gussie" is asking for "gusset" references.

I know an Augustus who gets called Og or Oggie which isn't that nice either.

I like it as long as she isn't born in December. Agree with the gusset comment, it was the first thing that sprang to my mind.

I like it, but I have an aunt Augusta so I'm quite used to it. Her brother and sisters call her August for short, but I think that Gussie is quite sweet. Unless it's turned into Gusset.

It makes me think of helicopters (but that's probably just me), Agusta is a type of helicopter made by an AngloItalian Helicopter manufacturer.

IMHO, Denise doesn't really sit well with it. But you might like to consider in the middle:

Florence, Dahlia, Madeleine (or any other Wodehouse names)

Or solid, fairly plain names: Jane, Mary, Sarah, Anne, Margaret, Rose?

I'm guessing Denise is a family name, named after a loved one?
I think the helicopter thing is only me... One of my colleagues has a DD called Scout and that's a helicopter too, so I find that odd as well.
Augusta is Org-guster, the helicopter Agusta is Ah-gusta so it's not quite the same.
Hhhhmmm I'm not sure...
Someone suggested Autumn a while back, I think it's very pretty, have you and your DH considered Autumn.

Augusta was my grandmother's name, she was born about 100 years ago. Her middle name was Matilda, which seems to be getting quite popular now.

I don't think grandma ever had a nickname, she was just 'Augusta' to everyone.

It was not in the stats for 2009 though (not that that means much of course!).

Denise is my mothers name, and dd has mil's name for the middle, so another dd would have to have Denise - I recognise it is awful - the poor woman was named after her father!

I could not use Autumn - she is my 7 year old ds's nemesis at school! He would be gutted!

All my dc's would have Wodehouse names but dh would never let me - love Dahlia too, and Bertram. Dh thinks they are hideous!

I love Augusta and would have fought for it if either DS had turned out to be a DD. My great grandmother's name was Augusta and as a child a term of endearment in our family was 'gorgeous Gussie'.

I think you should definitely go for it!

I love it. I know a fabulous woman in her twenties called Augusta and she shortens it to Gussie.
