How exciting - I've been asked to do some trial knitting for a film! Anyone else done it?

That's about it really, I'm going round to meet the lady tomorrow. She needs some bits and pieces knitted for a Victorian adaptation. If it goes well, the next project she's doing is a Hollywood film.

You do get paid, or alternatively, you can get paid in Rowan wool which she gets at a big discount.

I am very excited

Yes, new term is going fine. How's your new house? NG told me you'd moved.

Has dd1 started at school yet?

Funnily enough, I e-mailed A to ask for your phone number. I'm going to be really cheeky and ask whether you have a couple of hours free to help at the Nearly New Sale on Saturday 15th Sept. We're desparate for help!

The knitting thing came about through NG by the way!!! I don't know whether my knitting is really good enough, which is why I'm going to knit a trial piece first.

I'll report back tomorrow after the meeting. Can't wait to see the patterns. I think I'll be starting with something like mittens or an "opera cap". No idea whan an opera cap is, but apparently it's quite a small thing.

Don't know if you've seen any original Victorian patterns, littlefish, but I googled and here are some to have a look at - a bit scarey!!

Gulp! Those patterns definitely look fiendish!

I like the sort of knitting you can do while you watch the television! Somehow, I don't think this is going to be that sort.

Well if you want to practise, I have this excellent site in my favourites, think there's some victorian patterns on it somewhere here.
I do love just looking at this site and gawping!!

No, have seriously thought about it, I really love that site. I'm sure I had another one with victoriana on it but, can't find it. Ds probably deleted it.

Oooh, how interesting

We met 'Mrs Weasley' i.e, the person who did her knitting when we went on a course at Rowan. She'd also knitted ballet tights for a film.

I know GreebosWhiskers! Perhaps we'll be able to pay the mortgage in spite of my wool habit!

However, dh has said that I will have to turn out some of my stash, so I may have some bits and pieces to offer to you lovely ladies.

Honestly it's getting embarrassing to go into the wool shop up town 'cos I can see the assistants grinning & thinking omg is she back again

Am going to knitting group for the second time tonight & it's in the little craft shop that sells Noro - I went for the first time a fortnight ago & came out with 5 balls more than I went in with & made sure I paid cash so dh still doesn't know I don't even know what I'm going to do with it as it's 2 balls of this in the rust colour at the top & 3 balls of this. I got the whole lot for just under £12 & they go beautifully together so I guess someone is looking at getting a scarf for xmas unless I can come up with anything else

GW - those yarns look gorgeous. I always thought Noro was really expensive though.

Well, I've been given my pattern. It's an opera cap which is really just a rhomboid shape with ribbons on two of the corners to tie it under the chin. However, it's got a pretty picot edge and some kind of fancy stitch for the main piece.

I think I'll re-write the pattern with each knitting line on a different line. It's very hard to read at the moment as it's all in one paragraph.
