would it be easy to sew a duvet cover

I can just about use a sewing machine. Not very well, but I've somehow managed to make a few aprons, and a couple of patchwork quilts and now I'm stuck for what to do next.

I have found some amazing fabric that would match my dc bedroom and I was wondering if it is as easy and simple to sew a duvet cover as I think it could be. (Get large bit of fabric 2x the width of a duvet, fold it in half and sew the edges) the only thing I might get stuck on is the buttons/poppers.

Can it really be that simple or am I missing something?

It's just a giant pillowcase really but without the annoying flap bit to do.

Buying fabric that wide is probably the tricky part. Easier for a single duvet that a double but I suspect you may have to hem on three sides.

It will be for a single. They do flat sheets in various sizes, so I thought I could just buy one and cut off any excess then fold it in half, sew along the top and the side and figure out how to do the fastening later.

Or would it be better to make 2 seperate prices of fabric, and then sew along 3 edges and leave space for the opening. Just wondering if that would make the duvet lie in it better

Random thought for you...if its the fabric you really want, but the fastenings are putting you off, would it be easier to get a bargain plain duvet cover, then enough fabric to do one side and hem it then sew on (may be madness, but it's the kind of bonkers idea I go for )

My MIL makes them all the time, although she always does them Scandi style, so they often don't fasten. It's a bit annoying as the quilt keeps falling out!

Or if the fabric is expensive, buy the cheap cover as above and appliqué a deep border of the fabric close to the top of the cover.

I was going to suggest ribbon ties too.
Can I also suggest you make the measurements a bit more than the actual size of the duvet or it might be a rather tight fit.
