Does anyone have an overlocker?

DP has very kindle agreed to buy me an overlocker. I am so excited as I've wanted one for years Grin

Does anyone have one? If so, what brand is it and would you recommend it? I've been looking on Amazon and a lot of them seem to be around the £200 mark which works well for me. I just don't know what to go for!

I have a Brother 1034d, and love it. It's easy to use, there are loads of youtube tutorials, and a dedicated facebook group who can answer any questions you may have, as well as being able to look at a photo of tangled thread and tell you exactly where you've gone wrong Grin.

I got mine from here www.sewingmachines.co.uk/brother1034_info.htm - next day delivery, and a box of overlocker thread and scissors.

Haha! That sounds great. Weirdly, that's the model I have just been looking at on Amazon. I love the idea of the Facebook group. I find the thought of threading up terrifying Shock

Oh that's a fab deal with the thread and scissors! I will keep that bookmarked to show DP. It will probably work out cheaper than buying the Amazon one at £189.99 and separate thread.

Honestly, it's not hard! I used this tutorial www.makeithandmade.com/2012/08/threading-your-serger-or-overlocker.html, I can do it myself now and have only rethreaded it a handful of times.

What are you going to use it for?

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm making children's clothes and it would definitely make my life 1000% easier with an overlocker. Plus it will make everything look ever so neat. I'm so excited to get one Grin

I have a Toyota. I've had it for about 6 years now. It's been hammered but still works as good as new. Threading is a doddle. It's all colour coded and you work from right to left following the colours. It doesn't take much longer than threading my regular machine. It does great rolled hems as well and you can use them for gathering by adjusting the differential feedSmile

These are some ruffles I made on my overlocker - rolled hems and gathering in seconds!

Add this tutorial to your must-watch list: - I was struggling with curves and corners until I found that!

Raven my normal sewing machine is a Toyota and it's brilliant. I'll look in to their overlockers too.

Buttons those ruffles are lovely! Thank you for the links, they are really helpful.

I have a baby lock overlocker and one thing I'd say is that I bought it from a local shop and am really glad I did because it took me a while to get my head round threading it and the shop was really patient with showing me several times (to my face at least- they may have thought I was a numpty privately!)

I have a vintage Bernette by Bernina (in photo) and just went on a one day workshop on how to use it. Brilliant piece of kit but what I did learn was that the modern ones do really cool stuff like differentiated gathering (where you connect two pieces of fabric together and gather one of them up at the same time, think dress bodices attached to skirt) .my little interlocke doesn't have those bells and whistles ... But then I got it for £40 from the charidee...
