making your own tapestry

Would it be possible for me to get the children to print their hands onto a canvas and then turn it into a tapestry kit for dmil to make. Dmil loves doing tapestries and her grandchildren ..

I know someone who did this with a photo of their son's house and had a kit made up, threads and a printed canvas so it is possible - google will prob be your friend.
