What yarn would you use for this crochet cardigan?

I quite fancy trying this pattern I've spotted on ravelry here

It says to use a worsted weight yarn - which is the same as Aran?

What would you use?
I've been thinking about the Drops range - they look really good value!

I've never crocheted clothing other than hats etc so don't want to spend too much in case I balls it up!

I don't know - I can't use any wool as I am allergic to it so I use Cotton or Acrylic for everything and they are all patterns based on wool. As long as the hook size is right you shouldn't go far wrong.

But Drops range is super chunky; so you might end up with a huge cardi.

Think the big merino might be a bit too £ - this is very much an experiment in crocheting clothing for me! Confused

Any idea what drops Alaska or Nepal are like?

I wouldn't use Alaska as it isn't machine washable (I use it for projects I'm going to felt)

That's a very sensible point! And very essential given my sorting-washing-skills! Blush

If it's for an experiment, why not pop to the range or somewhere and get some cheap stuff, and hone your skills before using the expensive stuff?

I would be tempted to go for the Stylecraft Special chunky rather than Aran as it seems to require a 6mm hook like the pattern says. I think Worsted isn't an exact replacement for Aran. If I can find some of the chunky I'll check the wraps per inch and see if it matches the description.
