Dc have been making bracelets on their fingers. I think they could make more types and other shapes with a loom... Are there different types/ shapes of looms? Which would you recommend? Tia

The easiest one is done on fingers. You make a figure of 8 across 2 fingers, slip 2 bands on ( not in figure 8) and take the bottom band up to overlap the top band, repeat one band at a time. You tube has some excellent tutorials, my 6 yo sits and watches the videos and tries to recreate them herself.

We've bought the official rainbow loom here:
www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Rainbow-Loom-Anti-counterfeit-Included/dp/B00K18YIOU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404321697&sr=8-2&keywords=rainbow%20loom&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

It's not cheap but it does seem good and there are a lot of videos that use this one. You can adjust it to make different designs. Be careful to get the genuine one, if you decide to go for this one, as there are sets which look identical on the box, but are counterfeit. The reviews on Amazon say that they are cheap and flimsy. Our one is really sturdy and the instructions are great. The designs you can make seem unlimited!

well, you really don't need to spend that much.

A similar loom is available in poundland for - £1. It works fine (as long as dh doesn't step on it, and then you might need to replace it)

We have one, there are 3 pegs, in rows, but the middle peg is offset.

There are loads of you tube videos using this one

We splashed out and got a box with loom, 2,000 bands sorted into 15 colours it was £10

try The Works and The Range. The cheap ones really are fine,

but the official rainbow loom ones ARE better - you can adjust from offset rows to straight ones - so you can make many more charms with them - spongebob is square!! they are also MUCH stronger so you can make the littler phone sized charms with all the bands doubled over.

It is also worth getting a metal hook/crochet hook if you want to make any charms/character based dangly things since the plastic ones can't cope with the stress.

We also use a French knitting "dolly" to make bracelet/necklaces etc.
