Attic 24 rainbow blanket - acceptable yarns

Right so we know that Stylecraft Special DK is an acceptable budget yarn for this project, but is there anything slightly nicer that isn't as expensive as Debbie Bliss Cashmerino but also has a good selection of colours and washes well? Also, is there a way to make it faster by using chunky yarn and if so, which yarn? TIA!

Haven't washed it but Drops extra fine merino is normally £3.10 and currently £2.35! It's lovely wool and very nice to crochet with.

I think it is washable I just haven't tried it.

It is beautiful!! Just worried that each skein is only 50gr, so half the size, so twice as much will be needed! Any more suggestions anyone?

Got a friend who swears by the Jarol heritage - 55% wool at about £3.50 /100g

However think about how your blanket will be treated - if you have small kids use acrylic. A wet wool blanket is a miserable thing in the winter to get dry ( and can smell quite " sheepy"!) - you wouldn't be wanting to hand wash it more than once a year either if that's what the yarn needed.
