I know there have been loads of threads about it and I will do a search later, but could someone just advise me of the basic materials to get me started. I have purchased a card making book and some scissors! I saw the link to a cheap website posted by UCM but wondered what I should get.

Also get a ruler before you buy on the web. Then you will see what size the cards are. JM is right. Some white/cream cards to start with. Some coloured cards to 'glue & stick' and maybe buy some little toppers to start off with. Look in Poundland they have Xmas card kits with loads in. Also look on our gallery for inspiration. There is shedloads.

Google 'handmade cards' and see what the rest of the world is up to. It's really really easy. When you do your first one, you will be pleased and someone on here gave me some great advice. As you continue you will hone up your skills and be as good as Clintons. (which are crap cos' they are 10.00 and made by little children in an obscure village in the Eastern world somewhere).

A metal ruler & cutting mat are a good investment. Handmade style papers such as mulberry paper - they make cards look lovely. Something to stick on as a main feature - such as a paper flower. Sticky foam pads are good as are hot glue guns. If it's Xmas cards you're doing, buy a little tree or snowflake craft punch. Endless uses. You can even use things you have around the house. Bubble wrap, tin foil, bits of fabric, sweetie wrappers - can all make lovely backgrounds

Lakeland do some "make your own" packs that are not that cheap, but can give you a good start.

Thanks for some great advice.

Yorkiegirl - I was going to attempt some Christmas cards to start with.

I've looked through the gallery and the cards you have all made are lovely, so that inpsired me to actually try and make some myself.

I've not seen any card making crafts in any poundshops here, maybe I need to go to a bigger one rather than the local one. But I shall keep a lookout for them.
