Sore after CVS- how long for? Worried...

Hi all,

I'm 14 weeks and had a CVS last Wednesday (results of which are luckily fine after a bit of a scare!), and I was wondering if it's still normal to feel sore nearly a week on?

I actually felt fine until Saturday, when I started to get what can only be described as constant ache and pain if I moved about, or gently pressed on my tummy, particularly on one side and in my lower abs. I know a little soreness is expected, but something is definitely niggling , it's actually a little hard to describe! I think that's why I feel like a tit going to the docs as i'm not sure HOW to describe the pain! It's not cramps, I haven't been bleeding, nor have a fever, but pain has pretty much appeared from Sat. Saw a midwife on Friday who listened to baby and all seemed okay then, but this is before I got pain.

Has anyone else had a CVS and felt very sore for a while afterwards? Should I get it checked out to be on the safe side? Could they just be normal stretchy pains? It's my first baby so haven't got a clue as to what's okay and what's not! Very aware that I don't want to become a hyperchondriac (sic!).

On a different, perhaps related, perhaps not related note, I had a scan at 6 weeks after some bleeding, and although all was okay, the sonographer noticed a large cyst on one of my ovaries. She said we might want to keep an eye on it in case it grew, but was nothing major to worry about. Tbh, I had forgotten about it, and not one person (and several have scanned me since last Monday!) has mentioned seeing anything, so surely if it looked bad or had grown, then they would've seen it and said something? Just wondering if this might be the cause of pain?!

I know I should really get it checked out (sigh), but don't want to cause a fuss and was wondering if anyone had had a similar experience after a CVS?

Hello cheesechomper. So happy to hear your CVS results were good - it's a hell of a wait for those results to come through isn't it?

I had a CVS last year and unfortunately can't really help as to the pain - I had a termination 3 days later so the pain of that kind of took over. I remember it feeling bruised, and looking bruised around the needle mark for a good few days.

I am now 13 1/2 weeks and have had a bit of pain in the last week without a CVS - I've put it down to stretching. And in another previous (but unsuccessful) pregnancy, I also was told I had a cyst on my ovary, which did hurt when I pressed on that side of my tummy. However, with this pregnancy they explained that cysts are really common in early pregnancy and are basically just the corpus luteum after you ovulated. They looked in all of my scans this time (6, 8 and 12 weeks) and haven't commented so I would have thought they'd have looked in your case too.

So, I think essentially what I'm saying is that I've had some of the aches and pains you're having, so hopefully they're nothing to worry about. But, I would still suggest you check them out, at least with your midwife if not GP. You've had a fairly major invasive procedure so you are allowed to make some fuss! Better to be safe than sorry and all that.

Not sure if I've helped! Hope all continues to go well. xx

Hi cheesechomper - good news about your results! I had CVS and definitely still felt tender, achy and bruised for over a week after. I wouldn't worry too much but maybe ring your midwife if it gets more severe.

Generally, I have felt aches and pains (some quite sharp shooting pains and others just dull aches) quite often since 11 weeks or so and think its just stretching etc x

My experience pretty much mirrored yours - had 6 weeks scan due to bleeding plus very large cyst which was very tender (it disappeared as pregnancy progressed). I was very tender (bit like a bruised feeling) after my CVS - lasted about 4 - 5 days. And. . .after all that I had a lovely healthy baby girl. Good Luck!
