Apologies if you're not in Wilts.

Now we have one council they have a proposal to unify the collection but it means normal waste is collected every 2 weeks.

Have your vote here.

If you want to meail them about it try wasteconsultation "at" wiltshire dot gov dot uk

A lot of the rest of us are already on fortnightly collections.

Our normal waste is fortnightly, recycling weekly, works fine for us.

We have landfill one week, recycling the other, and the food waste bin every week. Works fine.

There is a reason for fortnightly colelctions though.
We're on fortnightly collections but we have weekly recycling collections and fortnightly green waste bin collection.

I didn't like this at first until it was explained to me that councils can have collossal landfill excess fines levied against them, which is why they do the fortnightly/recycly thing. We just about manage as a family of four (inc a nappy wearing baby) with the odd trip to the tip.

I think its just the way things are going these days.

thought would be normal bin/garden waste bin alternating? so collection every week, just not same type of rubbish

i can see why people would be annoyed but you can have 2 bins if there are more than 4 of you and its not that hard to recyle, really

I'm in Wilts and general waste has only been collected once a fortnight for years. Recyclables in the intervening weeks. As far as I'm aware, that's normal now.

You get used to it. Recycle more and choose stuff with less packaging. No big deal.

We rcycle as much as we can but with 6/7 in the house it adds up!! Loks like they are going to add plastics / card to the bi-weekly recycling (which they didn't do in North before). Guess wel'll just have to have a 2nd bin - we manage with one now weekly - would rather not have to store waste for another week - there's no more going to landfill as a result of this (at least for us).

is dead easy to get a 2nd bin and it should arrive quite quickly. it'll be fine

I'm a bit bemused by this - you mean you have landfill collected every week at the moment in Wilts? I didn't know anywhere still did that!

You do end up putting less in your normal bin though as you have to ration yourself. We now recycle everything we can because there is 5 of us in our house - we usually fill our wheelie bin but it's OK. It's not a bad thing to think before you chuck stuff in the bin.

We have had fortnightly collections for ages here (Bristol). As a family of 5 we have about a bin bag a week of rubbish so only half fill the wheelie bin for each fortnightly collection.

It amazes me how much rubbish some households create. dh gets fed up about me going on about it.

With recycling and out food waste taken, I struggle to even half fill my waste bin for its fortnightly collection.

Tbh, I think weekly collections are unnecessary and encourage excess waste.

Just recycle more and waste less and it won't be a problem - even with nappies!

I'm fairly happy about moving to fortnightly collections.

We get the recyling picked up fortnightly and to be honest it's only on those weeks that I remember to put out the regular bin.

Yes North wilts is still on a weekly 'landfill' collection and would prefer to keep it!! Do loads of recyling and DW does not always like to see the recycling bit building up. Don't see why weekly is not preferred - in France in some places its more than once a week and they do loads more recycling than us (in general) - especially in hot weather its not so good keeping stuff hanging around.

Seem to be in the minority here - so I guess there won't be many voting against it.

we're still on a weekly collection in the midlands but don't have wheelie bins.....don't know if that's where the difference lies?
