Sainsbury's are going to be doing a Bridget Jones type ad soon. He names Claudia and she's a plump foodie writer

Monkeytrousers Fri 17-Oct-08 18:06:10

I can see why some might think it's sexist. but it isn't. Offensive to some maybe - and that's a different issue - but not sexist

Monkeytrousers Fri 17-Oct-08 17:58:02

Wots all this about?

junkcollector Sun 12-Oct-08 23:22:58

This thread cannot die. It's hilarious.

Janos Sun 12-Oct-08 16:35:09

Dunno about the Sainsbo's ad but just had a look at that insurance one.

Guess we should all fuck off back to the 1970s huh?

"It is not pornographic. We are trying to resurrect the fortunes of the insurance industry in new and surprising ways"

What, women in bikinis jiggling their tits? Thats soooo new and innovative.

Remind me never to get my insurance from these guys.

IhaveaSONcalledJesse Sun 12-Oct-08 11:39:41

Came on here to ask if anyone had seen the febreze ad with the guy coming in from work to find all the "musty smells" being blitzed by his wife, who's straight out of the 1950's - the Sainsbury's ad pales in significance in comparison.
Then I started reading.... I nearly fell unconscious laughing.

tbh, everytime I see it I am thinking...erm, who would even consider shopping in sainsbutrys if short of money....it is almost in waitrose/m&s priceleague..so, unless special occasion....if short of money the last place you shop, lol

lovecat Sat 11-Oct-08 21:22:55

No, no, he's Robert D Marshall on the website, not Robert Howard!

Not Cranbrook Road, PurpleOne, he's t'other side of Ilford on the High Road - somewhere between Lidl and The Cauliflower, I reckon. Classy....

Can't be arsed to schlep that far to picket the offices...wink

So whereabouts are you in the lovely borough of Redbridge, purple?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker Sat 11-Oct-08 08:24:44

So it looks like Mr Howard (and friend) were here yesterday then?

You know Robert, you'd probably have got a much better reception (although I can't promise) if you'd come in to discuss the merits of your video like a grown up. Using your surname as a username was a bit lazy wasn't it?

TinkerBellesMum Fri 10-Oct-08 22:53:01

I disagree, I think it is be him and he thinks that's "dumbing down" his English enough to pass off on a parenting board (too much Bounty). My last post states my reasons for thinking it's him.

witcheseve Fri 10-Oct-08 22:33:52

No it was some of his sub-ordinates as policywonk has said he knew his colons from his semi-colons. His staff are most likely made up of eastern europeans on mininum wage who have never heard of feminism. MNet towers please feel free to delete certain posts in case you get sued again!

princesspeahead Fri 10-Oct-08 22:20:44

ha ha ha
this thread is hilarious

poor robert, I feel almost sorry for him. although why he got his most illiterate and unintelligible employee to post on his behalf I can't imagine (unless it was him? no, surely not... grin)

Dottydot Fri 10-Oct-08 22:18:00

definitely live chat with Robert Howard - go on MN Towers....

witcheseve Fri 10-Oct-08 22:16:40

Well public school has obviously paid off. He's learnt to spell and also where his colon should go.

policywonk Fri 10-Oct-08 22:06:39

Robert Howard's email was pretty good for spelling and punctuation...

witcheseve Fri 10-Oct-08 21:54:00

We should do a calender with all our hotties on it. Give it to Robert in exchange for money to our fav nominated charity. Yes?

PurplePumpkinWitchyOne Fri 10-Oct-08 21:50:41

If they're based in Ilford, I could nip in there tomorrow if they're open grin wink

Don't suppose it's Cranbrook Road is it, Lovecat?

Boco Fri 10-Oct-08 21:49:28

I think this is my favourite thread of all time! MN versus Trident. Oh goodness that double troll thing was inspired.

I definitely second getting Robert to do a live webchat so we can quiz him about how exactly this is 'new' or 'surprising'. Whataloadofshit.

I also want to see Trident do the slow-mo bouncing cocks thing. Just to even things up.

TinkerBellesMum Fri 10-Oct-08 21:42:20

Let me get this straight. The top bloke is called Robert Howard and a new member called ehoward and saying "I'm a lady like you ladies" is defending the company whilst trying to say "she's" nothing to do with them?

Habbibu Fri 10-Oct-08 20:30:32

Just googled - they are a tiny set-up from the looks of things. I do hope they don't have an Icelandic bank a/c.

Habbibu Fri 10-Oct-08 20:28:32

"We are trying to resurrect the fortunes of the insurance industry in new and surprising ways." I'll say it's surprising - but it's rather more retrograde than "new". I really would like to know whether they expect to get female customers with this. Or men with brains. (and once more with feeling - i.e. lower risk customers...)

policywonk Fri 10-Oct-08 20:24:55

It says it might be privileged and/or confidential <frets>

I'll paraphrase:

Dear Mr Policywonk <angry>

Your interpretation of the clip is surprising. It is not pornographic. We are trying to resurrect the fortunes of the insurance industry in new and surprising ways. We seek to be an ethical insurance company, and do not sell payment protection or critical illness cover.

We showed the clip to our employees and they loved it. Your complaint and a complaint from another Mumsnetter are the only ones we've received.'

Actually, to be fair it's quite thorough and polite (also some slightly eccentric bits that I won't transcribe for fear of being sued). grin It does sound as though Mr Howard is taking a personal interest in all things Trident, so it is quite possible that it was him that people were speaking to on the phone.

mehgalegs Fri 10-Oct-08 20:17:25

pmsl at trident trolls
"hhhmmmmm!!!! u women have far 2 much time on your hands, i am a ladywho has an opinion like the rest of you ladys, give up on the trident employee thing!!!!! can no one disagree on this site!!

Habbibu Fri 10-Oct-08 20:09:26

Ah. V small set-up, then... What did the Director say, pol?

TinkerBellesMum Fri 10-Oct-08 20:02:12

Ah, I'm with you Makes sense without pregnant brain on. (nearly typed "pregnant brian on" I don't think we should go there!)

I think I'm 27 hmm
