her school is out in the middle of no where.
To get home most of the school buses have to go through a town that has a massive bonfire celebration. people come from all over to go to it. so gridlock.
why can't the school just shut early that day.

have you suggested this to the school?

at the thought of ds1's SN school shutting early anyday

Could you go and pick her up? (sorry not sure if you can drive). I can understand the problem ds1 freaks in traffic jams, I can imagine the escorts would arrive a little frazzled if there was a gridlock!

people whine like mad if you have a teacher training day during term time.

they moan and bitch on MN and say 'Bloody teachers, why can't they train in their holidays'

And then I have to post , yet again, that the kids have always had the 5 INSET days as holiday, and that the teachers are being trained in their holidays!

WELL 2 SHOES, MY DDS SWIMMING LESSONS ARE IN THAT TOWN AND THEYVE BEEN CANCELLED! I DO SYMPATHIZE! (maybe only those with local knowledge would appreciate the scale of the gridlock, tho)

maybe she could be 'ill'...

thanks Noonar I think you know where I mean and it is going to be BAD. god alone knows what time she will get home.
I posted on here as I am not sure whether to mention it to the school. It happens once a year. but makes it such a long day for the dc's. it might be something they have already looked into,

2shoes - aren't they closing the roads at 5pm? Will the bus get through before then?

My dp used to work there, and his work closed at 2pm so people could get home.

Would it be possible for you to pick up at lunchtime? Could the school bus divert to the coast? What does the school usually do - it is not as if they don't know what's coming after all...

they will be going over the beacon. so will advoid the main bit. but the beacon will be mega busy.
can't pick her up early or keep her home as it will cause more problem than it will solve long term.

How do you think your dd will cope with the extra long journey? Does the school bus have sufficient staff in case the kids get tetchy while on board?

At least you will have enough time at home to make sure things run smoothly once she does get home.

I used to love going to the celebrations, but I can see how awkward it makes life for those who live and work there.

I like the fact that in this H&S obsessed culture, it still goes ahead, when in fact, it is bl**dy dangerous! It really does make the average firework display seem very tame. Would never take the children though .

It doesn't actually get to bad until around 5pm 2shoes and they don't actually close the road the bus will use until the procession comes up around 11pm (they close the road through the town from the lights, but not the one North). Even the schools right in the middle of town don't close early (they just assume half the kids won't be in the next day!). Having lived there I wouldn't worry about it - the deputy head is one of the bonfire societies so he will be very aware of the issues It feels very strange sitting here in the sunshine thinking about the madness that is that particular town on bonfire night!

Sorry, careless typing all round! That would be "too bad" and of course the deputy is "in" one of the bonfire societies rather than being one

Perhaps you can capture the sun and put it in a barrel SD. I know you want to .

Can they change the time the buses go though? I know in my school there is no flexibility from transport as I guess the buses are used for other things during the day.

That's great 2shoes! Hope your dd isn't too bothered by all the firework noises back home - it sounds busy here tonight...
Hope too that the Bonfire boys and girls have a fun and safe night tonight
