about 2 weeks ago there was a boy racer going round and round the block and then he ended up smashing into a street light at the corner where I live, which ended up bent over and not working and live wires sticking out of the base. All of the residents rang the town council on several occasions about this.

So fast forward 2 weeks and last night at 11pm, a mini digger turns up, a load of repair men with angle grinders, saws, sledgehammers etc shouting trying to get the lamppost out of the ground. Then they turned off the electricity supply without any warning, plunging the whole street into darkness til nearly 1am. My kids got woken up by the noise and then scared to death by the sudden total darkness everywhere. My friend who lives over the road had only just got her 19 month old son home from hospital that day so she was pretty upset at all the noise as it woke her ds up. I am sorry, but if they saw it as an emergency that it needed doing at that time of the night then why the hell wasn't it done 2 weeks ago anyway?? I was walking to school this morning and saw that there was a massive hole in the ground with big mounds of soil all over the pathhway so i had to walk on the road to get past it all, and the old lamppost perched on top of the mound and wires exposed in the hole!!! DH thinks I am wrong for sending a snotty email to the town council this morning. I asked them to let me know if we can expect any further sudden disruption from this repair!

I would not only write to the council, but to the newspaper. This is absurd.

Praise to you for doing something about it instead of just sitting on your beehind complaining about it to people who can't do anything about it anyway. Well done. Shame on your husband.

Councils, aaaagh. We live opposite our town hall, and in the summer they have hanging baskets and window boxes full of flowers along the street and outside town hall windows. They water them, with a generator assisted water pump, 3 times a week, at 4.30am. Yup, 4.30 am. I have complained twice - luckily they've just removed the window boxes because they're dying off, but DH says if they do the watering at the same time next year, he's going to go and shove the hose where the sun don't shine.

So no YANBU and a letter is a grand idea.
