to think you can get away with being unreasonable in aibu, if

You hide the unreasonable bit in the last paragraph. Just like a tabloid. They start a story with the sensational totally unsubstantiated headline then bury the details truth in the last paragraph which people rarely bother to read.

I see this in the responses to posts on here, if they have several paragraphs, people respond to the beginning of the post, focusing on a detail there, or asking a question that is answered later in the first post.

So I would start my aibu by saying I hate how my mil eats babies then a load of waffle padding out the post, then reveal that she eats jelly babies in the last sentence for a unanimous yanbu? Though by my logic none of you will be reading this by now, blah blah blah, fruit shoots blah blah blah penis beaker.

That's twenty seconds of my life I'll never get back

I haven't noticed that but will look out for it. I do notice that the first reply usually sets the tone for either sympathy or an absolute flaming when from the OP it could go either way.

Still unreasonable

I can't eat jelly babies anymore because they give me tooth ache

So for that reason she's unreasonable

Some people don't even read the thread title, tbh.

'My 7 year old DD is upset. AIBU to ignore her?'

'How old is she?'

Its all down to the first few replies and who makes them and who makes the OP I've seen some go bonkers in the first few lines for no apparent reason and others get a funny, witty, clever response in the first few replies which sets an often very funny thread.

I am fucked then pretty woman. Hey ho.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Mon 26-Sep-16 19:28:30

I am fucked then grin yep first post usually sets the tone.

Your mother in law eats babies? shock Have you phoned the police?

brasty Mon 26-Sep-16 19:29:52

You should phone 101, just to log it.

Thewolfsjustapuppy Mon 26-Sep-16 19:38:41

I think you should go NC she sounds like a narc and this could be a very unhealthy relationship.

Your last paragraph is yawning attempt to imply you have some history and yet you seem blissfully unaware of how aibu goes.

Thewolfsjustapuppy Mon 26-Sep-16 19:43:05

Fetching the popcorn

Pettywoman Mon 26-Sep-16 19:53:02

Yeah, totally fucked. Best book a spa day.

FlemCandango Mon 26-Sep-16 19:53:44

Ouch burn monsters, you are cutting, I know aibu, and I am very oldie. I have observed the not reading the first post fully phenomenon several times on several threads, today alone. But I am not expecting unanimous agreement on here as that is unreasonable.

Thewolfsjustapuppy Mon 26-Sep-16 20:06:17

I like Burn Monsters, I may have to steal that grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Mon 26-Sep-16 20:21:51

I suppose some posters might get a bit defensive as you are implying that most MNetters can't read beyond a couple of paragraphs or interpret what is written. grin

I have noticed how threads can take a peculiar turn sometimes but it can be fairly amusing.

Is this going to turn into a bun fight?

StarryIllusion Mon 26-Sep-16 20:24:44

I just want to know what a penis beaker is? Aside from the cup of yoghurt that a pp's dh was sitting with his knob in.

Soubriquet Mon 26-Sep-16 20:25:49

I just want to know what a penis beaker is?

No you don't. Trust me
