This drives me nuts!! Has to go to work today as has paper work to catch up on. Figures some nice quite time. I knew the cleaner would be about but that's grand. However about 6 times his phone rang and he proceeded to have very loud conversations via speaker phone with the other person! So I had to head two sides of the conversation.

They only ppl who I see/hear doing this are ppl using a different language. Is it because they assume no one can understand the other person so it doesn't matter. But it still doesn't explain why!!!! It's wasn't FaceTime as I stuck my head out and he was not looking at the phone!!! Drives me nuts!!!

Presumably so he could keep cleaning with both hands, but yeah, I fucking jar this trend.

Extraordinarily rude and selfish. Second only to tossers doing an entire conference call on speakerphone in an open plan office wtf.

Wonko no he defiantly was still holding it in one hand so that's not an excuse. It's so irritating and inconsiderate. Was on a bus once and a girl who was speaking French was doing it and making snide comments about Irish ppl and her speak phone pal agreeing. She was mortified when my friend joined in the convo from behind and then another person did too. French is not rare enough!!!

Oh god I hate this! I hear all sorts on my commute to and from work, most people don't need speaker phone on, they just shout down the phone at each other!
I know what someone's having for their tea when they get in, where and when they going on hols, who with etc...where people work, their colleagues names, the last time they had a shag. People really need filters.
Had to ask on several occasions when traveling with my DD that people watch what they are saying or at least make the person they are on loud speaker be aware that they can be heard!!

It's reminds me very much of the kardashians etc who always seem to do this. When I see people do it I always wonder if they think they're so interesting that we need to hear their conversations Hmm

Is that when they hold the phone horizontally and speak at it?

It's such a wankery.

I always use speakerphone - I just can't hear if I have the phone to my ear. I try not to do it in public, especially as I have a tendency to bellow down the phone. I don't get many calls though. Just as well .

I've seen this quite a few times in public recently, people holding the phone horizontally to their mouth. I wondered if the speaker section at the ear had broken or something so they can only hear using speakerphone? Maybe the sound comes out of a different place that way. It looks stupid anyway.

DS poured milk over my phone.
Since then I can hardly hear anything.
So I have to use speaker phone.
I don't often answer calls when out, but sometimes I do.
I apologise to you all Grin

Someone was doing this in a restaurant I was in last night!

I keep seeing more and more of this lately! YANBU OP, it's so obnoxious and infuriating. People who do it know that you don't want to hear their conversations, they just think their wants are more important Angry

There is a restaurant at the end of my (small) street and one of the waiters there has a shouty speakerphone FaceTime conversation with someone every fucking night, it drives me insane!

Philoslothy · 17/09/2016 23:12

It stops me getting makeup over my phone

YANBU. Like it's so much effort to lift their hand that extra 6 inches to their actual ear to use a phone properly.

i only use speakerphone in the privacy of my own home. if i know i'm going to be on the phone for a while in public and know i'll get arm ache holding my phone to my ear, i use earphones instead so you hear no more of my conversation than you would if i had the phone to my ear. I think it's very rude to have a loud speakerphone conversation out in public unless you really have no other way at all of answering the call. I just don't want to be pushed into that level of intimacy in regards to total strangers lives and surely there must be things they wouldn't want the people on the bus or the next table to hear?

I bloody hate people on loud speaker outside, it's rude you fuckers!

On a train home from work with my trainee before my maternity leave, guy in front loud speaker yes sir three bags full sir, I'll fire her tomorrow etc it went on for fucking ages. My trainee got his books out and started reading out loud, the rude fucker on his loud speaker phone soon got the message.

Totally Dickish behaviour! Angry

Sometimes people at work do this. Three people at the next bank of desks were on a conference call on speakerphone the other day. Go into a meeting room, ffs.

I also hate it when people have the sounds on their laptops and the tippy-tappy keypad tones on their mobiles, but then I am quite intolerant of noise Blush

I have a friend who is partially deaf who does this. She can't hear otherwise. She tries to limit loud calls in public but not always possible. And she DOES have a specially modified phone for the deaf :(

Ugh they all do it on the Apprentice don't they? I detest it.

So far there doesn't seem to be a single excuse for this that couldn't be addressed by using an earpiece.

The Kardashians and The Apprentice contenstants do it for the cameras so the views can hear hardly the same thing Confused

I hate being on speaker phone, you can tell, if I think I am I always ask "Am I on speaker? Can you either take me off or call me back please" it just makes me really uneasy, even if the person is alone
