AIBU to think I shouldn't have to prove a years worth of childcare charges when we have never received a penny in childcare element? Why would they check something they haven't paid?

Confused and a bit alarmed!

They include the childcare element in the overall calculation of your claim.

So they work out that based on two adults working 30+ hours each, with two children and £300 a week of childcare costs are entitled to £4000 a year in total (obviously not real figures).

Then they look at your income and that reduces the £4000 to £500 a year because it's been tapered.

So even though your childcare element has been tapered to zero, it still makes up part of the overall calculation which is why it's been flagged for a check.
