AIBU?

To think that Baumatic should not use my fire as a hard sell opportunity!

I'm aware this us slightly first world problems but yesterday our baumatic wine fridge went on fire.

Thankfully I was in the house and the fire brigade cane very quickly as I smelled burning and called them before it properly set alight. But it was a bit scarey as I have 3 children, the oldest of whom is only 3, so it was quite hard to wrangle them out if the house. Plus, I obviously am having g awful "what if" thoughts if it had happened at night

The chief fireman says that the wine fridge had faulty soldering in the circuit board and that caused the problem so I needed to call baumatic and report it

I did that today - I have to wait in for an engineer on Monday which is rather annoying but OK.

However, after I had answered the questions, the person on the phone asked if she could turn the conversation round to an entirely different topic - my washing machine Hmm. She then proceeded to give me a 5 minute sales pitch about their marvellous washing machine cleaner and asked if I wanted to buy a year's supply. She finished by telling me it is great at getting the smell of smoke out if washing machines ShockConfusedHmm

Given the circumstances, AIBU to think that baumatic should not use a fire caused by their crappy product (and I'm happy to take the word of the firemen regarding that) to flog me washing machine cleaner?

What! That's taking the piss. I'd phone back and demand to speak to a manager.

Oh that must have been scary, glad you're OK.

Sorry but I did lol slightly at 'wine fridge'. Grin Respect.

That's really not on, though!

The firemen did ask me if my houmous was OK when they arrived Grin

I don't know if I can bear to phone back. There was no option for "exploding appliances" so I picked "servicing". I had just launched into my story when I was rudely interrupted and told they couldn't fix it. No sorry or anything!
