To wonder whats a reasonable amount to offer?

Dh and I are moving to another country in around one years time. His family already live there (emigrated, UK born. If relevant) we're also in the UK. We will be living with them until jobs allow us to move out. This Is a country dh can easily find work in, me not so much but dhs job is main earner. So that doesn't matter too much, we hope to be with in laws no longer than 3 months. We will be saving up as much as we possibly can in advance, and have asked what kind of contribution we should make (again. The first time we were told nothing.dh, who's extremely proud isn't happy with this. The second time DH pushed it it was "whatever you can afford") assuming again that it's a whatever you can afford, how much is reasonable to offer per week/month? We will be buying own groceries and the like. Just for utility use

We had to do this too OP. Emigrated and lived at Mils (Also Australia) for 4 months.

She would not take money so when we left, I stuck an envelope with some cash in it for her to find.

She wasn't happy! But she did accept it after we told her we'd be embarrassed if she wouldnt.

DH also did some DIY for her.

Good luck OP. It is stressful but once you're settled you will love it.
