to boycott muscle food?

Good morning

I work in the fitness industry and am a body builder. I generally buy my meat from a company called Muscle Food and have it delivered.

They have many ambassadors including this man http://m.hertfordshiremercury.co.uk/Man-shared-private-sexual-images-woman-Cheshunt/story-29014277-detail/story.html]]

He is a personal trainer/ coach who they endorse and he acts as their ambassador.

As part of his job he coaches people online. Gives them workout plans and diets to follow. Men and women then send him 'progress shots' of their body. The usual form is to do this in their underwear.

Most of this mans other sponsors have removed him for their websites ASAP. But muscle food only say they 'are looking into it'.

Aibu to refuse to buy anything as they still have a page up talking about how wonderful and great he is? And should they have done something sooner?

There are quite a lot of us planning on doing it. But I don't think I want to use them anymore as it's taken a while for them to make a decision on it. To me it should be given that all endorsement is stopped ASAP.

You can boycott whatever you want. You don't need public endorsement to do that.

Blimey - people actually buy that shit? I buy my meat from the butchers like everybody else

Boycott away, i think you're probably their only customer anyway so it will actually make a difference!

I don't know anything about what the owner gets up to but would never buy from a company whose business is to supply a lot of meat as cheap as possible.

Most of the chicken comes from Lithuania so will be raised in standards much worse than is acceptable in the UK. It is telling that they sell dozens of chicken products and only one is red tractor labelled which isn't that great anyway and the red tractor chicken is more expensive than their standard product, so how bad must the conditions for their standard chickens?

I buy from there as its convenient and cheap. Due to my job I get a fairly large discount. Is that ok?

I don't get why people buy their meat from here either? It's rank and over priced.

Go to your local butcher!

I know of the company and its an easy way of having everything worked out for you, why someone would describe it as 'shit', I don't know, but there you are.

The meat carries endorsments from ethical animal charities and places such as the soil association, these things matter to some people.

It's disappointing that he didn't get a custodial sentence, this offence was supposed to be taken extremely serious.

I don't eat meat, but I did weights, so haven't used them.

He isn't the owner of the company, only an advocate, so it shouldn't stop you using them.

Thanks for all your opinions on my shopping habits. Would be weird if we made all the same choices Smile

I know he isn't the owner. I didn't mean to imply that he was.

My point is that they are still endorsing him and he is still their ambassador.

All the other companies dropped him immediately. I don't like that they are taking their time to consider wether to keep endorsing him given what he has been found guilty of.

I got an amazing deal on chicken breasts from there a month ago. Three of the packets were off and when I opened the rest to bag it up, the liquid n the bags burnt my hands Confused

What the fuck do they do to the meat where the juices are corrosive to human skin?!

OohMavis · 31/03/2016 08:44

In fairness to MuscleFood though, they couldn't apologise enough and gave me a refund. No explanation for the lethal chicken juice though.

Perhaps the contracts they have with this man are legally binding and it isn't as simple as dropping him?

Report
curren · 31/03/2016 09:05

Nope no legally binding. He is an ambassador. Illegal activity is a standard clause in contracts they have with ambassadors and sponsored athletes.

Besides which they could actually say that. Or take down the endorsement while they looked at it.

Burning chicken sounds awful

Sorry not sure what the point of your post is. If you don't want to buy from them don't, no one is forcing you.

Hmm. I think it's only worth you (plus a group if others join you) boycotting Muscle Food if you tell them that you are.

Perhaps you could start a group letter or petition at your gym.

Muscle food is everything that is wrong with our western lifestyles. Cheap, chemically pumped meat is the last thing we need more of. More lentils and organic meat IMO.

I'll explain again.

Aibu to refuse to buy something from a company (now or in the future) that endorses someone convicted this, when their job is training women and receiving pictures of them in their underwear.

jaim yes quite a few of us are emailing.

Also, having worked with an online trainer (female), I think it's important that the public in general should know about his crime. Will be interesting to see whether he gains future endorsements.

In the 'bikini' circles where a lot of the girls are quite young (and willing to do a lot for a place/title) they could be at risk working with him.

That's my issue jaimx

Muscle food is a very big company for the fitness industry. People do trust them and their endorsement means a lot.
