I live in Northern Ireland. We get the same (shitty) weather as you would get in dublin or cork or galway, except with more wind and about 3 degrees cooler, probably closer to scottish weather.

I grew up in Dublin so its not like i was used to great summers but i have lived in Northern ireland now for 17 yEARS and still find the slightly colder weather harder to take.

But most of all with each passing year, the piss-poor summers are really beginning to get to me.

I find i dread summer now, as it is almost always a wet and dreary disappointment. At least with winter you know what to expect.

Summers are now just an extension of winter, except a few degrees less cold, and with a longer day in which to enjoy(!) the rain and clouds.

I honestly don't think i can live in this country once my kids are grown. My mood is really bad for the 3 or 4 months os what passes for our summer. i dream of moving to spain or even a country like canada, which at least has seasons, freezing winters but hot summers etc.

My dh will never leave this country, the weather doesn't seem to bother him, but i feel trapped at the thought of still living here as i get older. i REALLY HATE IT! I hear people joke about how awful our weather is but they seem to find it amusing and a fun thing to bitch about whereas i find it really depressing, and it really does depress me in a way nothing ever has depressed me before. Is it just me, or does anyone else out there feel horribly trapped living in the irish climate?

It seems to me that we spend so much time just grappling with the elements (mostly wet and windy) that we don't actually get a chance to DO stuff, sports, picnics, walks, trips are all spoiled by the weather.
