AIBU?

To be pissed off that there seems to be no fixed hours part time jobs anymore?

Lots of part time jobs around. Ie 12 hours in a local co-op, when you look into it further you must be available 7am-11pm 7 days a week.
People wanting a part time job are more likely to be either parents (with child are needs) or students (with fixed lectures etc), both those groups would find it much easier to have fixed hours.
Driving me mad, looking for a job but all the part time jobs are the same, must be available for any shift any time which when you have a small child who would need child are arranging for is ridiculous. And paying for full time child care to ensure the 12 working hours are needs would bankrupt you - ie full time child are around here is about £250 a week and £12 hours at £7 an hour is £84. Sums just don't add up!

I have a part time job going, fixed hours, great benefits and living wages. Can't find the right person though..... Shouldn't be that hard!

I'm looking for someone part time for DH, am about to start advertising. School hours, flexible as to days etc.

But they need to have experience as a PA.

YANBU. Although if you look for tesco jobs they give you the hours they want you to work in the job description.

School cleaning wouldn't work for me as I would have to put 2 in after school club and one in child care costing £15 and hour for a job that probably pays about £7 an hour!
I currently waitress so dH is home but with dc3 going to school in sep, I wanted to get a job in the day so we actually get some family time again!

Where I work many parents work various combinations of days, all fixed, starting very early in the morning and finishing in time for the parents to get back to take the DC to school.

I can understand your situation, but I find staff that I employ expect me to be flexible about kids appointments, illnesses, holidays but won't be flexible themselves about the days they are available. I have never known a father to take a day off to look after a sick child, it's always down to the mother as she works less hours and earns less. I have to sort my kids out with family etc if they are ill but with my staff it is never the same as their commitments/ priorities are differed as an employee.
Unfortunately my business would be much easier for me to staff if I only employed European migrants as they are usually totally flexible never let me down.
I hope you have some luck soon though, maybe pub/ waitressing might be more able to offer fixed days.

Well I have one. Look for at admin/reception/PA stuff instead of retail where shifts are always changing.

That's a bit stereotypical, I also arrange someone to have the kids of DH gets called away for work, it's very rare that I don't work something out, for example when DH rang me halfway through a shift to say ds2 was being taken into hospital so I had took hometo watch the other 2.
I drag myself in when ill so not to let my bosses down, in fact last time I dragged myself in as we were short staffed and one of my bosses was off ill and ended up giving my bug to everyone else.
I had a job so not in any rush and can wait for the right opportunity (and the courage to tell bosses I am leaving, they have a breakdown if I have a days holiday as all the customers tell me what chaos it is wen I'm not there!)
