I know I will probably get hammered for starting this thread about alcohol during pregnancy. But here goes anyway:

AIBU for thinking the advice regarding drinking during pregnancy is not that difficult to understand?

So, the advice is "it is best to avoid but if you have one or two units once or twice a week the risks are minimal."

Clearly, this is not a green light that says go out and get blotted but a mere reassurance that if you choose to have one or two glasses every now and again it won't damage your baby.

Also, there is an issue around "what is a unit?" but I find the advice of complete abstinence so patronising and by saying this, it is not actually giving me the information, it is giving me an order.

It's because the amounts/levels/timings are not known, they can't be known because of course it is unethical to experiment on pregnant women. So the easiest way to avoid alcohol damage to the baby is to abstain. Not always possible eg mouthwash, trifle etc.

Anyway. Ramble ramble.

More selfish bastard women putting trifle and mouthwash ahead of their defenceless babies :(
