AIBU?

to ask for a partial refund?

I posted about this in chat earlier this week, the situation has changed slightly so I am now brave enough to ask whether IABU!

We hired a decorator last week and paid him £150 to do the prep work for and paint a double bedroom. He wanted to do it in a day, fine. We paid in cash on the night and he was supposed to be coming back today to finish a related job (worth about £30). It was dark when he finished and since the paint was dark it wasn't easy to see the finish.

He was available quickly and did a lot of things in a short space of time (mist coat on 3 walls and ceiling, 2 coats of paint on walls and 1 on ceiling) and did some good prep work (filling in gaps with caulk etc). However, on closer inspection there are some patches where the white undercoat is showing through and also some streaks/sprays of white paint from where he was painting something else. The wall-colour is very dark so these white streaks and paint splashes are minor but obvious!

DH and I weren't over the moon about the finish, but decided we'd point them out but ask him to finish off the related job and include it in the £150 price rather than get him fix all the actual painting errors IYKWIM, since we decided the best way to fix it was by giving it a whole new coat of paint.

Fast forward to today and despite us speaking this afternoon and agreeing a time for him to arrive, he hasn't turned up! No call, no response to my text, nothing! I know it's very, very unlikely that anything will come of it, but AIBU to request a partial refund (£50 or less) in order to compensate for the fact that we need to repaint the room to get a good finish?

I know I have very little chance, but it's the principle! I found him through a tradesman review website though so I'm hoping that might be the only influencing factor!

Well now you now paying up front for labour isn't the way to go in the future Sad

I don't think you have a hope in hell of getting him to return to repair his work or any money back, sorry.
